For those who've used Picasa and Aperture, what does Aperture do (or do better) that Picasa doesn't?
Completely different beast, as with Lightroom. Comparing the two is like comparing a point and shoot to an slr.
Best advice, if you feel restricted by Picasa, would be to download a trial and see if it's worth it for you.

Will have a macbook pro soon and plan to use aperture 3. That will constitute a change from pc to mac and from lightroom to aperture. I'm looking forward to it ... Though I know it will take some work to transfer files and such. Before lightroom, I used photoshop, but it went way beyond my pretty basic photoediting needs.

I bought a copy at the new low price and will try it out on my brand new Mac mini. I was actually contemplating LR3 for use on my more powerful core i7 PC. But at this price its worth a try. Integration with my iPhone, iPad and Apple TV 2 seems great, but I guess that would be the same with iPhoto (haven't used Macs for 15+ years and didn't even try iPhoto before I got Aperture yesterday, waiting for my iLife 11 upgrade disc).

Uh. iPhoto. It's only good for uploading my photos to my mobileMe Account. Above that there are no real features for organizing photos. iPhoto is very! basic.

I've Aperture 2, and if the offer is still valid when my Mac returns from repairs I'll upgrade, or buy new depending. This offer is cheaper than the upgrade has been previously.
@Jackbaty: Is that a Flexaret Va I spy you holding up against your ear? I didn't know they also doubled up as telephones.

Aperture also stores its photos in a package file, so you can't just browse them with the Finder ...
You decide whether Aperture stores files inside its library or outside in a file structure of your choosing.

Apple Aperture & NIK software
Apple Aperture & NIK software
Adding all the NIK software to Aperture has proven very pricey but I just can't find anything to beat this versatile user friendly combination. Especially as Aperture works well with all the other iLife apps.

Aperture and Lightroom are more or less the same. They differ in some features but at the core they do the same thing. I use Aperture 3, but I'm sure I would be happy using Lightroom.
For 80 bucks, it's a no brainer. There is no feature in LR worth the $120 bucks.
IIRC, Lightroom is $299, making the difference $220.
