I, as well as most of us I reckon, really like these old lens designs (Primoplan, Primotar, Biotar...) and despite the ongoing discussions about the new versions of those old lenses that Leica and Meyer-Optik have recently marketed, I think that is a great idea.

But now listen to this:
Some days ago, I was talking to a photographer in Ribe, Denmark and he told me that even Zeiss would jump on the bandwagon. He said that they plan to release a new version of the legendary Biotar 1.5/75! Can you believe that?

Does anybody have more information about that relaunch? Any source appreciated.

This is getting a little creepy!

This morning, I have received an anonymous mail with this text:

"Hallo,
Du hast gestern so schön über das Biotar berichtet. Im Anhang ein Foto. Ich möchte aber nicht genannt werden."

"Hello,
You reported so nicely about the Biotar yesterday. I have encluded a photo, but I do not want to be mentioned."

What do you think? Fake?

Ha, leaking new stuff in development has become a marketing practice to stir up a hype, for zero cost. That they chose you to be the carrier of these news to rff, would indicate that marketing people in Oberkochen understand the supreme importance of this forum :p
Or someone is just trolling.

Probably gonna charge you $3,000 for it.

And it will come wrapped in heavy weight beige wax paper like Mercedes Benz car parts and way over-priced in typical "German is superior engineering and you are not worthy" fashion.:)

I have an original 1951 f1.5/75 in m42 mount.
Attilla sent it to me 10years ago when his lens forum was in its heyday.
It's a very cool lens but if I'm honest, I struggle to find a use for it.
It would be fun if it's re-released although I bet lomo will do it not zeiss.

Anything to keep the engineers and grinders busy.

I really enjoyed my older M glass on my M-4P (35/3.5, 90/4) if for nothing other than size.

B2 (;->

If its real, it will be in Nikon F, Canon EF, and Sony E mount (or only one of those?). It will not be offered in Leica M/LTM mount. But if it were, I would visibly perk up and pay attention.

I'm in a gear acquisition lull right now (a good thing), but find it hard to resist interesting lenses cropping up all around. In particular, lenses in M or LTM (For example, the 7Artisans 50/1.1).

My budget will replenish sometime and lately I've become more interested in special lenses... If they're real that is :) I do hope this Biotar is real.

Wonderful news if true (and that looks like an actual lens!). Hopefully it will at least be made for Leica M or Nikon F, although LTM or any other such vintage mount would be a dream.

There are a handful of them in Contax RF mount.
I had one in my hands in 2009 that Could have been mine if I ponied up for the entire collection at the estate sale (former ww2 pilot had the entire zeiss catalog it seemed).
In retrospect I should have bought it but it was a lot of dough during what was still a recession in the US.
Anyway, It was a big heavy lens which would have been even heavier on an Amedeo adapter.

If this is a legitimate photo of an actual lens from its maker, it's the most mediocre one I've ever seen. Where did it come from?
Cheers,
Brett

Oh this photo is clearly a fake. Look how the lens image itself is poor and "grainy/noisy", but the letters and numbers on the beauty ring are crisp. Fake.

Carsten if you come to Seattle please look me up ahead of time. :)
I'll invite over my Swiss and German Family members and friends for a party!
