Hi, all -

Well, I finished the first roll through the new Konica I rangefinder this morning. Film was Rite Aid 400, first try with this, but turns out it's rebranded Superia 400. Dunno if it's got the 4th color layer or not. Whatever. So, after freezing to shoot some pictures this am, I packed the film down the road to Costco in King of Prussia. Tried out their processing/hi-res scanning. First time for that, too. See, this is whatcha call a well-controlled experiment...

Anyway, here're some shots from the "test roll":

I'm liking the film. I'm really liking the processing and scanning. And I'm overjoyed with the camera!

The film was $5.99 for a 4-pack of 24 exposure. Color's nice, film's a little grainy for my taste (but that's what you get with cheap 400-speed film, I'm guessin'), but the 200-speed Rite Aid I bought from Murphy should be just the ticket. And I need to find some bargain Reala for this camera. So film? Check.

The processing was one-hour at Costco. The "lab" is out in the open, manned by a single person. Clean, professional, and friendly. Asked for hi-res scans - "All we do is hi-res." Ok, then. Processing was done in just over an hour. Total cost of the developing, scanning, CD, index (printed on the CD) and tax: $4.85. So processing: Check.

Finally the camera: It's a joy to use. Ergonomics are simple. Lens is a killer. Got 26 shots out of a 24 exposure roll. Only two observations, both of which are release-related, and both of which need work on my part: First, the shutter release, while in an easy-to-reach and intuitive place, is so out of what I'm used to that I continually have to flip the thing over and find it visually. I think that'll improve with use. Second, the release has a hair-trigger. Being ham-fisted, I over-flicked the release a bunch of times, introducing a lot of blur to many images. All of my interior, available light shots, while properly exposed (win one for the Super Pilot), were blurry. And the slower speed outside shots weren't as sharp as I'd like. The higher speed shots were fine. Problem lies with the user. Again.

So, there you go. It's a great camera. I'm loading it up again. Woot!

Scott,
I'm not familiar with that camera but the lens looks like it does a fine rendition of colors on that film you are using! I think you have a winner there! You will get used to the shutter with practice!

Tom

impressive first time out.

i have walgreens do my processing, but an index is not included. i am shooting some w photo 200 color right now that is said to be rebadged fuji superia 200.

maybe costco is worth the annual fee after all ...

Scott, You and that Konica are bonded for life, now that you had that shutter opened up. Nice results. Tom is right about the shutter release too. You will get used to it.
