Hi Guys and Girls,

Just thought I would introduce myselt. I am Mark

I've finally done it! Just bought a Leica M8. After many years of wanting a real camera. Ever since I inherited my Fathers OM10 some 25 years ago. and having had many cameras from Canon and Nikom SLRs and many different compacts (including a Leica D Lux) I now have the camera of my dreams. We won't mention having sold my soul to the Germans because of the cost. Hey, You only get what you pay for! Abd believe me, and as many of you know this is quality gear. However, some dancing girls, champagne and fireworks would have been nice!! Maybe they can arrange for them when I buy my next Leica lens. Can you sell your soul twice? I'm fat, there is probably enough to go around.

I bought the M8 and a 50mm F2 Summicron together with a few other bits and bobs from RG Lewis in London this week. Very helpful and knowledgeable staff (all of 'em) Not to mention the good deal they put together for me, thanks Len.. However when I got home to find that a certain piece of registration paperwork wasn't in the box thier name was mud. Until that is, I phoned them the following morning to find out where it was they redeemed themselves by saying "Thats alright we've already posted it for you!" Now that's what I call 'Old fashioned' service. Brilliant.

I cant wait for any opportunity (or excuse) to us my new baby now, whilst trying to calculate how I can afford that wide angle lens.

Now where did I put that camera bag, my Precious.

Phats, If you want a real camera and a wide angle lens, that's simple. Go back to the store, hand in the M8 and get a second hand M7 or MP plus a couple of first class lenses, and you are set... ;-)

Better still, keep the M8 and buy an MP or M7 and a 35mm or 28mm lens and have the best of both worlds.🙂 Welcome by the way (I'm pretty new too).

I have both M7 & 8, and if I had to let one go it has to be the M7... It is just a perfect camera for film, but still the versatility and image quality of digital has become a must for me. Now, it would be different if the M8 did not exist, as my last choice is always dSLRS.

Anyway, the best way to find the money for a wide-angle is NOT using film. I guess that my M8 has really saved me for a lot of money, at least the same amount that I bought it for second hand!

Also the CV lenses are really worth considering, and second hand they do come really cheap. My only Leica optics is an 90 2.8, and I really do not feel I miss out on anything

Welcome to this strange and often very interesting and entertaining forum by the way!

Thanks for the advice guys. I am a digital man through and through though so sorry, but I won't be getting an M series film camera anytime soon.
Thanks for the welcome.
See you around the Threads.
Mark

🙁

Ignore him. The M8 is a great camera. I subsequently bought an used M4P and added an MR meter as well and enjoy using it. But I get more use out of the M8. Enjoy it. 😎
