New Canon 75meg in Testing

It appears that 50 meg "DX" rangefinder digitals and DSLR's are or even "Point & Shoot" are just around the corner. I looked over the story from a very good source. D800 is going to so last century...in about 90 days.

If 80MP for a 35mm framed sensor, it looks to me so yes. If medium format 645 type of sensor, then it'd be a pretty decent pixel pitch size (good DR, sharpness and high ISO performance without excessive internal signal processing engine usage).

Hell, even some Nokia mobile phones have 40 Megapixel these days.

You can guess how much IQ you get for those 40MPs though. It's just for "showing off the number" purposes 😀

Wow, that's really news.

Looks like the small humble Foveon/Sigma now has officially kicked corporate Bayer's arse and the (ex-)Bayer manufactures start to create their own copycat multilayer sensor versions, probably with a shame expression on their faces while they do it thinking "Damn you Sigma!" 😀

Whenever there is fine detail in a photo or a fine texture you can actually see the algorithms working. They make you lose some of the details. But the improvement of math behind the sensor can sometimes easily generate more IQ. So a Bayer-sensor depends much more on the math behind it.

people are discussing the shots. Yes, you need a good lens on the 5D Mark III to have a chance against the dp2 merill. But it is obvious, that the dp2 merill has more resolution power. And that is based on the ability to get RGB-Info for every pixel without interpolation.

Whatever they do I reckon if they bring out a higher MP 1dx it will be double the price of the current 1dx.

At what point does your sensor out perform your lenses? I can't see any 35mm lenses being a fair match to such a high res sensor. A Nikon rep told me that their "N" series lenses are only good to about 42MP, after that you really don't gain anything.

I'll just sit back and watch the Nikon - Canon war with popcorn and a beer while I continue to shoot my Argus C3.

Foveon type sensor being used by other camera makers would be great 😀. I have the Merrill series and I got to say the I love the shots from them. It as better in monochrom than in color surprisingly. IMHO.

If it will get me images of higher quality and greater density range with excellent shadow detail while holding highlights - why not?

If the higher quality can be seen in the finished print I am all for it.

Still can't get the same quality in finished enlargements that I get from contact printing large format negatives. Close but not quite there. So anything that improves the final image quality is welcome - and it is always fun to play with new stuff.
