Hi,

I just shot a test roll on my new Canonet Ql-17 GIII and the results were great, except the indoor shots turned out with a strange hue, most likely due to the lighting in my home. It's not fluorescent lighting. It's your regular light bulb.

I'm new to photography so please bear with me...what kind of filter do I need for indoor shots?

The camera came with a UV filter...should I have taken that off?

And my biggest question: while the test roll was color print film, I'd like to do mostly black and white shooting. Do I need a filter for indoor shots if I'm using B&W, or does it only apply to color film?

Thanks,

D.

You may get all kinds of answers on this one ...

Some color films are more forgiving and some are less forgiving of incandescent light. Fuji films seem to be better for available-light and mixed light.

At worst, Fuji print films give a warmish tone to the images.

Most color films are balanced for daylight or strobe flash. That's where the hue comes from.

I say "none", but you'll get others who disagree, I know. With the Fuji color negative films, you should be able to get a fairly normal look with some slight level adjustments in Photoshop.

That shouldn't matter at all, really, for indoor stuff.

For B&W you will have an easier time than with color. You shouldn't need any filter at all.
