I just realised that you can use the rubber washer off a bottle of Grolsch!
It's just the right thickness, fairly durable (I have some that have gone through my home-brewing process for years) and it has a nice "retro" orange colour.
Of course you have to open the bottle and drink the beer first, but I think that's a fair price to pay 😀
I don't know if that translates for those on the western fringes of the pond, but in Europe, you can get bottles of beer with the old-fashioned stone stopper, which is held on by an over-centre wire thingy. I know there are Grolsch, Pelican, Newquay Steam Beer and others in the UK and in France you can buy the stoppers for home cider making to put on your old champagne bottles. You can even buy replacement washers too!
