New CLA

I was just trying to get an opinion on the new CLA offered by Leica in Germany. Has anyone tried the new service since it was reformatted? If I dont sell my current M6, I was going to send it in for tune-up. Did anyone get their Leica back and think it was a new(er) camera? I just want to make sure I am going to get my 152 Euros worth.

Wow, 152 Euros sounds great. I asked my local Leica dealer the cost, and once it got passed through all the distributors I was quoted the equivalent of 500 Euros..

Can I just contact Leica directly? 152 Euros is a no brainer.

152€? That is worth sending the cam from the U.S! Are you sure about that?

There is really a flat for 152 EUR. But it only contains cleaning and adjusting. Other repairs will not be included. So if your camera only needs cleaning and adjusting you are in the game for 152 EUR. If you need more hold your breath. I accepted two estimates for my M3 (new shutter curtains and brakes required) and my R-E (times way off and instable, not matching Leica quality standard, so new shutter required) and more than 1000 EUR were gone. But the job they did is great. Especially the M3 is a newer camera now with a really bright finder. The R-E "only" improved internally because it still looks like new. Retention time is about 4 weeks.

I understand Leica in Germany are excellent, unlike here in NJ. There is a guy on another forum who lives in Australia and as far as I can tell he is keeping the Leica repair people in Solms afloat all by himself! Equipment shuttles back and forth constantly. Here in the US there are one or two good quality independents that I would personally go to first.

I forgot to mention the repair fees. But for 152 Euro for just some basic cleaning and adjustment you can't beat it.

I had my CL serviced in Solms. They did an excellent job in a very professional way. Unfortunatly it needed more than the standard 152 Euro job. I think that they are offering this service, because they want to do as much bussiness as possible. Of all the cameras they will be receiving, a fair percentage will need more than the standard service and they will not hesitate to propose a complete repair, which isn't cheap. After all from what I heard, Leica seems to be in need of some cash.
