So many people were sending me emails and PM’s over the past few days on way to make RFF sustain itself. I have never seen such an influx of great ideas! One idea kept coming in numerous times and seemed really catchy and fair to all. Having said that, RFF finally upgraded to a proper classifieds section. This new feature of the forum allows posting classifieds similar to eBay with buy it now features and bidding options. It is very intuitive and similar to the gallery. Please take the time to move your existing ads to the new classifieds section of RFF. You will see a link on the top of the page which takes you there.

Here is a sample ad I just posted:

Enjoy 🙂

I need to think of a fee schedule. for now it's free. Let me sleep on this a few nights. Maybe it could be offered as part of the premium deal going on for the gallery. You know an additional bonus with the Gallery upgrade for those who go thatroute.

The old section is closed. nothing has been deleted. doing so would reduce everyones post count.

ok, back up there. now its easier to cut and paste. Whoa. its getting late again.

If you look at the attached iamge you will see it looks very much like the gallery interface. Near the top right menu you will see the link for "Place an Ad"

Payment is by Paypal for now. I am working on getting a service that accepts credit cards instead. Alsthough you can use paypal as a non member to pay with credit cards.

I am, personally, going to need something totally outside of paypal. Perhaps even to the extent of sending you a money order. Will that be possible? I have no problem helping you; I have a serious problem helping a third party in between us...

Jorge, I see the button on the view in your post but when I go to classifieds, place an ad button is not there. No rush , though, I'll have to wait for an alternative paying method

Way cool ~ I like it.

Hmmm, but it ain't gonna help my GAS problem. 🙁

Jorge, IMO this is the wrong way to execute a good idea. If the $2.50 is per item, I think you're going to see a big drop in postings, particularly in lower value accessory items.

If you want to restrict posting items for sale to people that contribute financially (which I agree with), I suggest you simply provide for a new membership class. Only people of this new membership class would be able to post new ads; everybody would be able to read and reply to ads once started. If anyone wants to see how this could work, visit Talkbass.com - it's been this way for awhile and it works well.

If the $2.50 buys unlimited access to the Classifieds for a period of time, that would work (again IMO). However, I would turn off the auction feature - do we really want or need to be bidding against each other? I foresee trouble and hard feelings with auctions.

I think this will work nicely...but, I'm kind of fond of the way the classified forum used to work. Some haggling, some discussing, lots of side-options and deals. Is that evil of me?

Oh - and will this still be possible under the new format?

Thanks for setting this up, Jorge.

ps. and, i was kind of in the middle of a deal when the forum closed, so that kinda whacked me one. oh, well. i also think the previous poster has a good point, by the way, concerning the viability of low-value items in the "new" classifieds.
