I agree that it's Jorge's site and he can do what he wants, but I think we can also let him know how we feel about how RFF is run.

It is the content, the contribution of the members, that defines a site. Jorge set up a skeleton, but we filled it in and gave it life. There is a mutual relationship between the posters and the big cheese. We would have nothing without him, just as he would have nothing without us.

Jorge keeps his reserve, as he should being the sponsor. I see joe as the primary day-to-day voice of RFF and know that your counsel is well-valued by joe.

This has been an interesting thread today - an a quite civil one.

I think I'll now leave it to do other things here (perhaps a late night W/NW or maybe just go to bed).

Oh, I'm sure of it (presuming you're speaking of my not getting promoted). On the other hand, I'm good at what I do. Nobody is indispensible, but I'm, er, valuable.

There's no relationship, he's an absentee landlord. Which is his right and privilege, and he picked a good guy to moderate. Whoops, good people. That's not a complaint, it's just a statement of fact. I'm ok with it.

Back on the original Topic of the new Classified Section.

I hate it.

The old forum-style was fun. Put an item up, it generated comments and discussion. Members chimed in with their opinions of the camera/lens/whatever. Some posted shots. Others pined away for an item that they could not afford. After reading comments, I broke up sets that I wanted to sell together... and in some cases ending up with pieces going back into the drawers. I've held items for months waiting for some members to raise the cash; and in some cases just not be able to carry through on the deal. It's not like I NEED the money. I am good at getting bargains, and some DIY repair. Stuff was priced for a community where the members enjoyed the equipment. Nothing makes me happier than equipment winding up in working hands.

The new format does not leave room for discussion and it has tiny-little pictures.

I am simply not going to use it.

While I can't say I won't use it, I do agree with what Brian says about the Classifieds. It just doesn't have the charm that the old one had. The new one seems more "business-like" and less like a bunch of guys/gals talking shop. I kinda miss that.

Huston, we could have a problem if Jorge WANTS slick and big, and we prefer warm and homey. I hope Jorge realizes that the qualities that have made RFF so good and special, are the ones he is considering changing!

This site used to be good in my opinon, now not so much. I used to check it like 20 times a day. I am down too 2. The new classifieds is confusing to navigate through. Personally it is not worth my time. I started loosing interest when there where all those server problems, and I am not interested in 10 different lens tests or the copious amount of polls.

I agree with Brian, Frank, and others that the old classifieds were fun to interact with, comment, joke, bump and see what your friends were doing whether you could afford to participate or needed the item or not.

I posted mt RF stuff in the new classifed section as it was the only place to do it now. I realy don't like the format. We will see how it works.

I prefer the new one sice it is much more organized and the ads have very good search capabilities. Yo can do just as much as you could in the old style and more. You just need to get use to it. who knows maybe one day I will enable both.

Interesting point. This talk of payment comes at a bad time - with server difficulties, banning, and general discontent of late. I hope not too many are turned off altogether.

I do have to 'fess up that I never before went to the Classifieds section so have only seen the new version.

I defer to others as to whether it's a better format or not.

Personally, I prefer to sell stuff via eBay as I want to keep my sales a pure business transaction. [No "hard feelings" that way].

I will certainly check the classifieds here for GAS relief, however. 😀

I never actually visited the "classifieds" forum as such; all the "FS/FT/WTB"'s were included in my stroll through the RFF Homepage, as they appeared in the queue. And, as said, it was not just the gear-for-sale that kept my attention - it was the dialogue that developed in the thread. I know that a couple of my purchases resulted as much from the input of other members about stuff as from the stuff "For Sale" on its own.
This new format will take some getting used to, and I wonder if it will prove an improvement.
