New Cosina lenses

Those new Zeissina lenses look good.
However, I can't imagine a new M mount lens unless it's a fast 75 or 90. That's the only hole in the CV lineup, IMO.

the new 40/2 and 58/1.4 are Voigtlander lenses in Pentax KA and Nikon AIS SLR mounts, and have nothing to do with Zeiss.

The 1st issue 58/1.4 Topcor by Cosina a few years back was a limited edition lens and became a very sought after lens in the Japanese home market.

Looks like one is a "P" lens. I saw these lenses on the cosina japan site, but glad to have found an english version.

The mounts look like they have the electronic transfer of information to and from the camera. Not sure what this covers, any thoughts?

I know they have "nothing" to do with Zeiss, officially. But I have this funny feeling all Zeiss lenses are rebadged Voigtlander with a slight twist. If I'm so wrong, then the Cosina marketing is doing something wrong, IMO. Only MO.

Soooo, how is the pancake different from the discontinued 40mm f/2 SL (besides being black)? Always thought it was a pretty good lens.

absolutely not true.
Zeiss is far too proud of its optical reputation to allow anything like that to happen

not sure what you are getting at with that comment, but Cosina has absolutely nothing to do with Zeiss marketing (except in Japan where Cosina distributes Zeiss)

As far as US prices on the new lenses, that will be announced within a few days.

Stephen,

Cosina makes both, correct? There is not enough differentiation between Voigt and Zeiss except the name. Both lenses look almost the same. And a name is not enough to push a consumer like me to pay extra money.

I'm a consumer so I think what I'm saying shouldn't be taken very lightly.

How serious would Leitz be if they we're subsidiary of Tamron Co.? Well, that's how I view the modern Zeiss. And please don't get me wrong, I love the Voigtlander line.

that is your view, and you are of course entitled to it.
but zeiss fanatics will argue that on to hell and back with you.

I do agree that Zeiss's success in marketing the new lenses seems to be a lot less than they were hoping for. Don't forget, these is the same company that stopped producing cameras in the 1970's because they publicly admitted they were not good at marketing retail products to the public.

that is not the relationship at all between Cosina and Zeiss. Zeiss contracted Cosina to build Zeiss lenses and cameras to Zeiss designs and Zeiss QC standards. Neither is a subsidiary of the other.

That means you can have 3D Matrix metering with the cameras that have Matrix metering like the N8008, N90, N90s....F6

Won't matter when you mount it on a Nikon F2 or F3 ;)

I wonder what's next, AUTO FOCUS??
