New CV Bessa R4A with 21, 25, 28, 35, 50 framelines

>>One thought - how usuable will the 50mm frameline be at 0.52x?<<

I'm thinking it will use the same base-length as the existing Bessas. Focusing accuracy is less critical with wide angles. I do wish CV would get away from the tiny base length.

For what it's worth, the existing CV minifinder uses an approximate 0.5 magnification. Very workable. I have to agree this kind of setup would work best with two cameras ... the second body being a 1:1 viewfinder for 50mm and longer lenses.

And I thought I was the only one feeling that way !

But, after all, almost 3% of RFF have said they will buy an M8 sooner or later 😱

A 21-50 RF will be great, in particular in a 2-body bag.
Too bad we'll have to wait till next April.

Roland.

No, not too bad. Good. Very, very good. Means I won't have to sell my soul so that I can get it before then. 😀

That's what I was thinking. It will be the perfect match for my R3M...

Cheers,

Way cool for the wide-angle folks, me included. Very, very tempting...I can already see my voigtlander and canon wides on such a camera. It would even mount that apparently exquisite ZM 50/1.5.

Suddenly as a mostly-digital shooter I feel deprived that I can't get a camera like this. (Thought you film diehards would enjoy the sensation of the shoe being on the other foot for once.)

Seriously, it looks as if Mr. K again has again center-punched an unfilled market niche. Even a lot of SLR loyalists concede that an RF camera is tops for shooting with wide-angle lenses, and some still carry an RF in the bag specifically for that purpose.

Yet until now there's never been an RF camera that supports wide-angle optics really well. You've always had to add dorky, clunky auxiliary finders that knock out the possibility of follow-focusing or using in-finder readouts.

So, looks like another winner for Cosina. I'll be really interested to see pictures of this! As a camera-tech buff, I'll also be really curious to see what kind of optical system is used in the RF/VF to make it work.

*sticks her tongue out at jlw*

Yeah...we film shooters aren't getting the short end of the stick for once!

So someone tell me...

How am I going to afford this again? 😕 😱 :bang:

I think it will look a lot like current Bessas. The wide field of view is accomplished largely through the reduced viewfinder magnification. The existing CV minifinder (for 28/35) is quite small, uses a roughly 0.5 viewfinder magnification and can encompass a 25mm field of view. By making it the size of a current Bessa finder, that field of view would accomodate a 21mm lens. For that reason, I expect the baselength to remain the same, as well. The camera probably looks a lot like a Bessa R3a, unless they've made a cosmetic change to denote the new model.

nice..

This is good news.. mind you; does this not suggest that M-mount 21mm and 25mm lenses from CV can't be far behind? 🙂

Dave

Oh man, I've just got my R2M with 35f1.2 from Rich (photovillage) yesterday🙂 35 frame is a little hard for my glasses but still very convenient.
I think I'll buy a R4M/A if a Leica M mount 21f2.x appears in the future, not too far away, right😉

That sounds great, but to somebody that uses primarily 50mm lenses, I wonder if the 50 frameline is just too small, given the frameline range.

Shouldn't it be called the R4W instead of R4A?

Oh, I'm sure film will still be around. Kodachrome, on the other hand... 🙁

A very good move on the part of CV I think. It encourages people who use a variety of focal lengths to buy multiple bodies. They've got some smart'uns on the payroll.

Wow, really glad to hear some cool bessa news coming from photokina. I was worried there'd be nothing.

I'm seeing an intimate relationship with bessa throughout the foreseeable future, and it is good.

can you imagine how great the 25 and 28 framelines are going to be? the best EVER!

it doesn't sound like this has a second viewfinder like the nikon sp, but that would have been awesome, too.

I was kind of wondering but now, for sure, I'm not buying a Leica soon!
I'll keep shooting with my R and wait for this little wonder. So perfect for my 25/35 combo...
