New CV cameras at Photokina?

> Why 'Cosina Voigtlander' but not 'Cosina Zeiss'?

That would imply that Cosina owns Zeiss or licenses the Carl Zeiss name in the same way that it licenses the Voigtlander name for its own product. That's not going to happen.

Remember, Cosina is merely a subcontracter to Zeiss. That doesn't allow them to use any of the Zeiss technology without some type of agreement.

If you designed a car and then had someone build it for you. That person then couldn't take your design and begin building and selling it as their own without you signing over the rights to do that. At least not in the U.S.

I would hope that Cosina would use a wider base rangefinder.

If it uses the standard Cosina rangefinder, the viewfinder mag of just 0.52x would give it an effective base of 19.2 mm, which is simply too small (my opinion) to give you adequate accuracy. Any misalignment would be a real problem. And I wouldn't want to use it with any lens longer than 50mm.

Even if it used the Zeiss Ikon rangefinder (75mm), the effective base would still be just 39mm or 2mm more than that in the current R3A.

And remember that 0.52x is quite severe.

Of course, specs are one thing and in use, the camera viewfinder and rangefinder could prove to be fine.

I don't think its that big an issue - the camera is designed to be super-wide. DoF of the 21, 25, 28, etc. should be sufficient to not make it critical to get accurate focus. 35 may be more of an issue but I think the vision for this camera is for it to be a second body and companion to an R3 (or even a T)

Lots of Leica CL users don't complain.

This is a camera for wideangles, not for fast tele lenses. If you need teles, buy an R3A. Or an SLR.

I'm not sure about the 40/1.4 or 50/1.5 up close, but time will tell. This is a great second camera, or even perhaps a first for someone who lives on the WIDE side (doot, ta doot, doot doot ta doot, say hey babe, take a walk on the wide side....)!!

While the Noctilux was made in an era of (and thus 'designed for') M bodies with .72 magnification (ca. 50mm EVL), the new CVs should be equally good with 2.5/50mm lens (or approx. 1.7/35mm). Or do I miss something?

My primary concern with an 0.52x viewfinder is with Cosina's apparent inability to correctly calibrate the rangefnder on the production line. There are way too many user reports of the rangefinder not aligning at infinity for it to be a random issue.

However, if we see this as a camera primarily for wide angle lenses, then that won't be as much an issue, more an annoyance when you look at the rangefinder patch and see that it's out of alignment.

To quote Mr. T: "I pity the fool" who mounts a 90mm or 135mm lens on this camera and expects to get consistenly accurate focusing -- if indeed the 0.52x viewfinder is combined with the current CV rangefinder system. And you know it's going to happen.

I've been trolling through the new posts here looking for info about new CV products at Photokina. Nothing was mentioned so I switched to an Aussie site Mainlinephoto sort of a Downunder Cameraquest company. One of their headlines is that 2 new Voigtlander cameras the R4a and R4m have been announced both to be available in black and more info will follow. Can anyone confirm or deny this as I'd expect something like this to appear here first. Or is everyone just so distracted by the new M8?
Yes, everyone has been distracted by the M8, Stephen posted this a few days ago:
