New Digital Format, Of Interest to RFF?

Oh yes! The shorter flange distance suggests that our RF lenses will be adaptable. And a m4/3 rangefinder may even be on the horizon. My 35mm Ultron may actually 'become' the portrait length tele it deserves to be!

strange, I dont think this light rays are going to be a problem here because the sensor is so small but we might have a compact street camera some day. A M mount adapter to make all your lenses way too long could be in the running too.

Micro FT: 20 mm
Leica M: 27.8 mmm
a use /adaption of "Leica M/LTM" lenses is possible.
Perhaps we see here the technical base of a future Leica CLd[igital]
 
finally it will point to a high-end digital RF. But don't expect it will cover our leica lens. a 35mm lens become 70mm is simply unaccepted for me.
 
why not ?
a CLd[igital] by Leica with M-mount, lifeview and focus confirmation. Lenses in M/LTM are still available from 12mm (FT=> 24mm) , 15 (FT=> 30mm), 16 (FT=> 32mm), 18 (FT => 36mm) from Voigtländer, Leica and Carl Zeiss.
Panasonic merchandize the "same" camera with MicroFT mount and AF (perhaps there will be a M-> MicroFT adapter for the Pana)
Let us see the next Photochina (Photokina)
 
Looking at the diagrams and comparing the distances and widths of the flange, I actually think it might be very simple for someone to make a m mount adapter for this camera. If someone manages that and it actually works it is at least a thought and temporary solution to a digital rangefinder. It would at least give us people keen to try out new things an option to play with. You will need something at least 25mm to get a 50mm view, and that sucks, but im sure someone here would find it at least plausible.
 
You can also forget about selective focus using wide open apertures as the geometry imposed by these tiny sensors creates huge DOF even wide open. You'd need a very large aperture 25 mm lens to even come close to a 50 mm f/2.8 in terms of shallow DOF.

Here is a thought that should be familiar to those who have used Leica's and digital video equipment. A warning about digital video stuff is the sensors cannot take a sustained shot into the sun very well and will burn out pixels if you are not careful...hehe get my drift?

It is part of a new Kaufmann interview in a german online mag. Very biographical,(I never realized that we were born in the same city)
with no "real" news but with this sentence:
""There will be in the digital sector [at Photokina] some interesting items,
we will show products, whom nobody expected of us, true surprises", announces Kaufmann"

Everybody expects a digital SLR „R10“ – so he doesn’t mean this future dSLR

If they released a whole bunch of extremely fast and tiny Leica/VC/Zeiss ZM style prime lenses for this new type of camera - eg: zuiko 9mm f2.8/12mm f2/14mm f1.8/17.5mm f1.4/25mm f1.2 etc etc, and also bundled optical hotshoe viewfinders with each, with electronic contacts including focus confirm in the viewfinder..... jeese I'm getting excited.

Because of the new dimensions and characteristics of the lens mount, small and fast lenses are going to be do-able. Because of the no mirror, the cameras are going to be silent. The four thirds sensors are already as good as anything and sometimes better in terms of color fidelity and tonality. The full range of current four thirds lenses can be used with the electronic adapter with FULL functionality. Imagine using one of those zuiko 150mm f2's on a body smaller than an e-420 but with the same image quality and full functionality

Just think of the possibilities.

Glad to see some movement in the marketplace again - was tired of seeing more of the same, but with an extra feature or two, for each new product generation.

I guess they're trying to shake the dollars out of our pockets eh? 🙂
