New Electro owner

Hey, just received my first Electro GSN yesterday and I'm a bit disappointed. Not through a fault of the camera, through my own fault of buying on E-Bay.

The front element has a small crack/chip on the edge. This leads me to believe 1 of two things happened.
1. the camera was dropped and probably has some other internal damage I have yet to discover
2. the camera went from hot to cold too fast. (i doubt this was the case)

I'm pretty bummed as I was so psyched to get it. After I received it I went back to view the auction and you really cant see it. Being that the seller bought it at an estate sale and made the infamous "I know nothing" claim I hold only myself responsible.

Any suggestions on repairs?

I also picked up a kit with the tele/wide adapters. Hopefully these show up in better condition.

have you run any film through it? The chip may not make any difference at all. You could have a crack down the middle of the front element, and even that will have minimal impact on your pics. check this out:

Wow, I wouldn't have possibly guessed a lens like that could still turn out a decent image...

Be careful though, you might get the lomo crowd to start shattering their front elements and stopping down.

Inexpensive parts cameras come up often. Replacing a front element would be trivial.

Or you can be lazy like me and send it in to Mark Hama for repairs and a full once-over.

Don't be disappointed, if the camera is working well you will be surprised with it. The ad-on lenses are fun to use and sometimes one can get interesting results (example here http://addonwideangle.notlong.com ). However I had a set of those and sold it, they add volume and weight to the camera - and put more glass in front of the lens.
