New England color report

I was driving through Franconia Notch and past Littleton to suburban St Johnsbury mid-week. The fall foliage was absolutely gorgeous, but unfortunately, both days I was driving through were very rainy, with heavy cumulous hanging about 500 feet above the color.
The weekend is supposed to be at least partly sunny, and it might be an early not-so-crowded time for some picture taking. I had gear in the back seat, and wasn't happy at the lack of color enhancing light. When things did clear, well into Southern New Hampshire, the color was almost non-existent. I'm not certain, given the chilly tems and the rain, how good the season will be for the busloads/carloads that flock to especially Northern NE this time of year.
I have my daughter's family, formerly of Littleton, NH, and visited in their new home in Lyndonville, VT. Lovely house, and the grandkids are both happy with their new schools, etc. Even the cat is adjusting. Just wish the light had been better, and the rain at least light....

Still raining up here in the Northeast Kingdom (I'm just north of Lyndonville) but seems to be trying to clear. Best though is that the color is better than in several years. We've lost some leaves with the rain, but it is still gorgeous.

The crowds are staying away too, gas prices and all the rest I suppose. Quiet up here as a result...

I just returned from a week in the Bar Harbor/Mid coast Maine area. There were some areas with great color, despite the rainy weather. The slide film went for developing today, so hopefully I will have some good shots.

I for one prefer the foliage on cludy days. Most all week it has been overcast with misty or light rain, and the colors really glow. No glare on the leaves without bright sun, so they are fantastic.

Patchy colors here in southern NE. I leaves seem to be turning directly to yellow and brown and falling already. I think our super rainy September may bite our colors this year.
