I just visited Fomas website and found the following under news:

RETROPAN 320 soft

soft is a panchromatically sensitized special negative black and white film with fine grain, good resolution and contour sharpness.
The datasheet is available in English here: http://www.foma.cz/ew/ec816f17-da8b-49ce-bd89-1d75aa19fee6-en

Sounds like good film news to me 🙂

Great news! Though I'm not sure how i feel about buying a film called 'soft'.

Also, all this talk of 'retro' things in the datasheet is kind of annoying. Makes us all seem like hipsters!

Still, I like fomapan 400, and maybe this will be good too. Certainly it's good news for film users if new types are being made.

Interesting curves and it's way less red sensitive then the Fomapan400.
I'd love to see some samples (more so in regular developers) 🙂

Could be a nice fast film with plenty of midtone action.
Any more information about when it will be released and how much it will cost?

I'm also interested in its pushability up to 800 or slightly higher... if it's a soft contrast film, maybe it will be nice for taming excessive contrast in low-light shooting.

You have to give a heads up to anyone that produces a new film. I'll certainly try some. I takes me 5 rolls to finally get what I want but it is nice to have a new choice. Maybe Freestyle will pick this up. I have to have 120 so I'll wait and see.

It is a lower type contrast film, indeed available in 35mm and sheet film. The spectral sensitivity is regular panchromatic. In combination with Foma's warm tone papers you will get a retro style photo.

When going to push you will get a normal contrast negative hence the film can be easily used for higher speeds: iso 640-1000 (1250). In this way it will fill the gap for films like Neopan 1600.

Any news on 120?

Yeah, considering that 120 cameras are cheap these days, the marked should be there for sure.

When it comes to Foma, I do prefer it in 120 over 35mm every day of the week. (lower grain, better tonal gradiation etc)

It would do well in 120, if its softness places it somewhere in the realm of Verichrome and TXP 320. It is more effort to cast 120, though, at least if you do it properly on thin substrate with backing - maybe they'll do it if sales of 135 and sheet film suggest that there might be enough demand.
