I e-mailed to join the list. As long as the price isn't absurd, I want one.
For those hung up on TTL metering--it doesn't really do much for a fixed lens rangefinder. They can't focus that close, so you're not often in bellows factor territory, and it is possible to compensate for that anyway without TTL metering, if the meter is communicating with the focus lever (Canon had a system like this for autoflash exposure). There's only one lens, so the meter can be designed to have the same angle of view as the lens. TTL metering would compensate for filters, but it's not hard to add the filter factor using the exposure compensation dial or just by resetting the ISO dial, and it wouldn't be worth making the camera thicker, heavier, and more complex just to compensate automatically for filter factor.

It'll have a leaf shutter. It's simpler and smaller than a focal plane shutter which isn't needed because the lens is not interchangeable. (A focal plane shutter blocks light from the film during lens changes.) The Mamiya 6 has leaf shutters in interchangeable lenses but requires a light curtain to block light during lens changes. TTL metering doesn't work with leaf shutters because they are located in the lens too close to the front to leave room for a meter cell. (A focal plane shutter is located farther back, just in front of the film, hence the name.)

This is how.....
This is how.....
My wife is too watchful, but thought CVs were from years ago.
It was a great run while it lasted.......
Pick up an old FSU or Japanese folder on Evilbay. Shine it up and then give it away here when the new Fuji comes home!
I am too evil, must go do something for good.......

I just realized, if I can get this in silver/black, my (blind to all things photographic) wife will think it's just that old Soviet (Iskra) folding out camera thingie that I've been carrying around!
Stealth major camera buy! Wooohooo!:angel:

I'll just sell the Iskra. That way I get the bait and switch plus some money to put toward the new camera!
Evil genius!
(I'm just kidding guys. Don't jump on me for deceiving my wife.)

I don't see it as deceiving. The knowledge of you buying cameras apparently hurts her. By not telling about them you protect her from being hurt. Nothing wrong with that
Kind regards

6x9 and be there!
I'm on the list too. Just couldn't resist. A Bessa with Heliar lens, music to my ears. Too bad Cosina & Fuji didn't go all the way to 6x9 format though...
Cheers!

The new Fuji / Voigtlander folder looks to be very well made, has an incredibly quiet shutter, and by FAR the best RF/VF ever put in a folding RF, along with silicon metering for metered manual or AE priority exposure. Electronic shutter 4 to 1/500 sec. The dual format 6x6 or 6x7 camera at first glance seems to be a winner.
I met with Mr. Kobayashi today. What is undecided at the moment is the future sales situation. It may or may not be officially sold outside of Japan -- it is simply not decided yet. Those details should be worked out in the next couple of weeks.
In the meantime I am accepting buyers on a 667 waiting list. Email me at Stephen@CameraQuest.com if you want to be on the list. No deposits until all the sales details are known.
Thanks
Stephen
Stephen,
The Polaroid Pathfinders 110B and the 900 had single window range/viewfinders equal to the best Konica viewfinders of the same period. The 900 also had the first electrically-controlled shutter, first camera with programmed (shutter and aperture) auto exposure. That's 40 years ago.
The base of the Bessa III rangefinder didn't look as being wider than 50 mm (estimation but I'm usually good at that), that's quite short for an 80 mm lens. My Iskra has 55 mm (75 mm lens), the Polaroids 110a/120 54 mm (127 mm lens).
Edited: The physical rangefinder base is approximately 37/38 mm, so even less, I thought the round window was the second rangefinder window but it is the one in the illumination window.
It's odd that the specification letter next to the Photokina display of the two cameras mentioned that Cosina will distribute the camera outside Japan etc. and Mr. Kobayashi obviously isn't aware of that.

While I like this camera based on what we know, I really would like to know more - size, weight, price and well......how good is the lens. I'm sure it will not be a bad camera, but will it be worth it's price (whatever that is), and will it deliver the type of pics I'd like - I suppose time will tell. So, I'll wait and see. But I really want it to be great!

I like that. I mean, the knowledge that I'm screwing around on her would hurt her too....I shouldn't tell.

He is at the Photokina right now and may not have arranged his email account for posting from Germany.

This on Portland Craigslist $15. Buy it and whenever you go into public with the wife, take it along. Shortly she will encourage you to buy anything you want. ?????

Unless I misread Stephen's original post, y'all are brave to enter a *buyer* waiting list for a camera that we don't even have the price for it yet.
I'll get one eventually, 6x7 is my favorite format, and I know Fujinon lenses are super, and it has to be more compact than a Mamiya 7II, hopefully way cheaper too

Will, I responded and put my name on the list, but I made clear that my commitment to buy the new Fuji folder is contingent on price. I think more than anything this is a chance to register a serious intention to buy the camera. It's certainly not a legally binding contract to buy the camera, so I don't see anything "brave" about it.

He said he won't take deposits until all the details are available, so I think that's where the final commitment will be made.

I agree.....I think the list interest is contingent on price...... that would be obvious.

It certainly could have a TTL meter even with a leaf shutter. In that case it would have two meters -- one operating traditionally, i.e., not TTL, and the second using cells mounted inside, a la the OM-2/3/4. The former would be used for metering in manual mode, the latter for auto.
