If you had ****** then your last update was not done complete!
Since they have two files you have to run the update twice! After the first run it changes to ***** and after the second it changes to 1.04 (or 1.05 this time)
IF you have 1.04 on your camera and start the first update, the camera will run the second one on its own, without further action.
If you have 1.03 or below, you have to run the update proccess twice for successfull upgrading!
Sometimes you really have to read the update instructions

Thanks for the explanation but i bought it used and thats how it looked. Happy that its performing better.

Seems like you got a used one?
But the camera works well even if it has the ****** Firmware. The only thing i know is that the face detection isnt there when it is at *****

It seems several people have had to have a couple of goes at updating the firmware ... I did mine exactly as per the web instructions and it failed to install correctly the first time.

I tend to keep all the fw updates on my computer. Fw 1.01 and 1.02 had only a single file to worry about. Starting at fw 1.03, we ended up w/ two files per fw update. As I think about it now, the only time I can remember a hiccup was when I did te 1.03 update, after that no problems w/ subsequent ones. Since this does not appear to e a issue for everyone, I wonder if it is something that happens occasionally during the first someone goes thru the two fw file update.

The best camera is one that still works!
When mine failed it was because it didn't load the file that identifies the firmware version ... the firmware was there and working but without its ID.

There is no ID after the first part of the update. Thats perfectly ok.
The id appears again when you do the second part of the update.
The camera is working after that first run (if you dont do the second) but not all features are installed (for example face detection is not there, when you go from 1.03 or below to 1.04 or 1.05 and dont do the second run)
