New Gallery - Thumbnail size

In the new gallery software, vertical and horizontal thumbnails are not shown the same size. Vertical usually show as larger images.

some like this method, some do not.

Would the gallery thumbnails look better

1) As Is - no change

2) or Both Vertical and Horizontal thumbnails showing the same size image?

Definitely option 2 for me - the different size thumbnails make the gallery pages look visually messy to my eye.

It was important enough for me to post a super tall image to point out that no limit was set on verticals. This was corrected in a strange manner, making the thumbnail fit in a square box. The new thumbnails are much larger than before, and after all, they are just thumbnails.

What about scaling them in such a way, that the area is identical?
By the way, the downscaling seems to reduce the sharpness of certain images a bit.

I've had a good look and here are my thoughts...

Same size for me too, even if it means reducing the overall size of the thumbnails.

The designer in me would prefer more negative space around each image to isolate and make viewing easier, along with a 1pixel white or lighter grey outline.

As it is now, it's confusing my eye. I can't isolate and lock on to a thumbnail as I could in the old gallery.

IMO, the larger verticals are much better. Never did like the tiny thumbnails from the earlier gallery. Portraits are much better at the larger size.

For what it is worth, the different look is a welcome change, leave it AS IS!

I realise there are quite a few tweaks needed to the New Gallery and over a period of time they will get sorted.

I voted "same size" because I feel the thumbnail areas should be as equal as possible. (I assume by "size" you meant "area" ?)

I voted number two, but number one has a lot of appeal, too. As a graphic layout I like the way it is now, but the verticals do get short shrift in that layout.
This is why you get to be the boss.

Same size, please. The new gallery home page looks messy with the current unevenly sized thumbnails. I appreciate the mods' thoughtful attention to this kind of stuff, thank you.

Leave it as AS IS. The thumbnail "real estate" is the same for all image displayed on the same row, so it does not bother me.

I welcome the larger thumbnails. I hated the small thumbnails -- yes, they are just thumbnails, but I don't expand ALL images, just the ones that look interesting, and I use the thumbnails to decide which ones are interesting.

I would like to see more thumbnails. In the old gallery, you had five thumbnails across the top. If you wanted, you could skip the next photo in line. You did not have to click every thumbnail to see scroll through the random images. You also had the < > to advance without opening each photo.

Maximize the number of thumbnails to be seen, I'd lose that random larger picture at the top of the page. Allow me to choose what image I want to see. I dislike programming that tries to think for the user.
