Hi,

I took my "new" GSW690III out this morning. Everything was fine until I put the (Manfrotto) quick release plate on. Then the shutter would not fire. The only way to get it working again was to remove the plate and pop the back. I have a vague recollection of seeing a reference to a similar problem somewhere on a forum, but cannot find it now.

Can anyone help?

I found a post about a similar problem on p.net:

Many thanks! Armed with that info, and a bit of experimentation, I've worked it out. The Manfrotto plate has a little grub screw in it to prevent rotation. I've established that if that it is screwed in, it must distort the camera frame just enough to interfere with the innards. With the grub screw all the way out, I can put on the QR plate quite tightly and the camera still works. Phew!

OK, to finish this thread off, and for the benefit of any future googler with a similar problem, this problem reoccurred and I was unable to get the camera to work consistently on a tripod. I sent the camera to an authorised Fuji service centre (Baltronics in Sydney) and they advised me that there is a shaft which runs through the baseplate and connects the shutter assembly to the exposure counter.

This shaft had become bent - goodness knows how - and the distortion caused by attaching a QR plate was enough to prevent the shaft rotating.

It is now repaired and seems to be working fine.
