New Half-Case for the Leica

So...I didn't like the original Leica case at all as you can't separate the bottom piece from the top (and I tend to use just the bottom case when I go out).

So...I bought a half-case from Luigi at www.leicatime.com

It arrived today and damn - that case is gorgeous!

The fit is excellent and the leather is very nice indeed.

The leather strap that comes with the camera is also great looking and very practical.

If you're in need of a half-case for your Leica (or Konica RD) you simply can't go wrong with this case.

Delivery time from Italy->California about 3 days.

Luigi is selling them on eBay as well I believe but I contacted him through his leicatime.com site

I got the 'brown, aged standard half-case'. I must say that it makes holding the camera a completely different experience then when using the original rickety Leica case. This one fits soo well and is sooo smooth ;)

That is a beautiful case. I do not know why the original Leica cases did not use a snap to take off the top half, although many have gone that way on their own. I have a 1940's "35mm Technique" book on the use of the Leica and Contax cameras. The author illustrates an entire page on how hold the case so that the top portion becomes a lens shade. He uses his "Pinky and Ring" fingers to position the top portion of the case. Iv'e done it on occasion, but the Vulcan Salute is easier.

The last Leica case that I bought is made for the camera and lens with the "Eyes" mounted. It is so that people won't make fun of my Summaron F2.8 with eyes.
 
After using a generica "never ready" case, I got a couple of bags, a large one for my two bodies, and a smaller Domke bag for one, glass and my SF20 flash. It's a bit better than the "never ready" case, as all I have to do is flap the cover and pull the camera out... in case I've chosen to case it. Otherwise, I carry the camera around the neck, lens pointing down.

However, I've lusted after the Luigi cases. Does this one have the built-in grip? I don't see it...
 
Nah, decided that I didn't want the built-in grip. Just a personal preference :)

Going for dinner tonight and the case will go really nice with my dark brown suit ;)

Dinner with your wife and your camera? No, it doesn't sound sick... I'm sure you'll be some classy diner this evening! French? Italian? Chinese?

Which prompts me to tell you something: the one and only time I nearly forgot my camera n a restaurant was in New York. My wife and I went to a Brazilian place in 46th Street, had a caipirinha each, and as we were exiting the place... she noticed I didn't have my Canonet slung over my chest. Needless to say, I ran inside immediately!

Neither - 'American/Californian cuisine' :)

And..no camera came along...changed to a black suit and it would had such a fashion faux pas to use the brown case with that suit... ;)

(Ok, I forgot to bring it..) ;)

Does this mean that you will be ordering more cases to match your suits in the future? And of course there is nothing worse than an empty case.

I bought my Nikon SP case before the SP. The camera dealer was really surprised when I pulled the appropriate SP case and Black Nikon 5cm F1.4 lens out of my bag to carry the camera home in.

:eek: that's pretty fast...

Btw nice camera, nice lens and nice case Richard, all 3 seem to have been made to be together, well, all 4 if we are including you :D
 
You're right, Richard, that outfit on a black suit would have wrecked your reputation as a classy author of mean images.

Although... I think it'd go very well with jeans. :)
