Voigtlander-HELIAR-Vintage-Line-50mm-f3.5-VM-lens-for-Leica-M-mount.jpg

love the shape. if the rendering is indeed classic, it'll be hard to resist.

I wonder how much, if any, this will differ from the Voigtlander Heliar 50/3.5 LTM that Cosina produced earlier? I have that one and use it a lot. A very nice lens indeed.

I also use a Bessa II folder with a Color Heliar 105mm lens and it also provides excellent performance on 6x9 medium format. Good enough that I did not feel undergunned when I sold my Fuji GF670.

It will be interesting to read the performance testing for this new reiteration of that older Heliar design.

That will indeed be interesting to see. Do you have a link to some sample images from that lens?

I'm not particularly fond of collapsible lenses and the focusing mechanism on that earlier 50/3.5 did not appeal to me either. But some people really dig that vintage style. ;)

I have similar thoughts. Is this a lens with identical optical design as the 50/3.5 ltm, but with different barrel and cos, etics and a switch from ltm to M?

We'll have to all get together and buy one, then send it to Raid to put through the paces so we know how it works.

Then we can ship it around to each and post photographs taken with it in a thread called the Traveling Voigtlander. :)

This is a wonderful idea, Dan! :D:cool:

"2001年のHELIAR 101 BESSA-T限定モデルに組み合わせるスクリューマウントレンズ「HELIAR 50mm F3.5」として登場した光学系をベースに、コーティングや鏡筒内の内面反射などを見直したという。"

Based on the HELIAR 50mm F3.5 screw mount lens that accompanied the 2001 HELIAR 101 BESSA T Limited, this lens has improved coatings and inner barrel reflections.

"今回のVintage Line版はデジタルカメラでの使用に配慮した固定鏡胴とし、最短撮影距離は1mから0.7mに変更。ライカMマウントカメラの距離計に連動するほか、接写対応の「VM E-Close Focus Adapter」をはじめとするマウントアダプター経由でミラーレスカメラに装着することも想定している。"

This new lens in the 'Vintage Line' uses a rigid mount due to considerations of use with digital cameras, and offers close focus distance changed from 1m to 0.7m. Its focus cam couples with M-mount cameras, and it is also compatible with the VM-E Close Focus Adapter and other mount adapters allowing it to be used on mirrorless cameras.

Does the name indicate other focal lengths to come in the Vintage Line?

I'd love to see comparison shots of this lens with other "artsy" M-mount lenses using the same film.

Say, for instance, the 1,5/50 C Sonnar; the 1,4/40 Nokton Classic SC; the 1,5/50 Summarit, the 3,5/35mm Summaron, 1,4/35mm pre-ASPH Summilux, etc. Say a common setting using the same film such as FP4 exposed by a few people on the same day. That way, it's character could be readily referenced in an entertaining, yet concise way.

Looks just like the ugly S-mount version!

I used to have the S-mount version, and I'd describe its rendering as modern rather than classic. Its very sharp from f3.5 (one of the sharpest 50mm lenses I've ever used actually) with a Zeiss-like depth and pop to the colours. No doubt the improved multi-coating and internal reflections (which I assume they reduced rather than improved :)) will only add to that. So a very high performing modern lens that is classic in appearance only.

I think every lens I have is very sharp from f3.5. Difference being most of them have several extra aperture stops before that..

Yes it seems likely this has nearly identical optics (both are 5 lenses in 3 groups). If it's modern a look... well.. there won't be much interest on my part.

Vintage Line should stand for vintage optics!

All kidding aside, I think it is absolutely fantastic that Cosina is introducing these lenses, including the new Nikon ones. Just like the old times, only better!
