Hey all,

I'm a college sophmore studying Mechanical Engineering at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and have just recently picked up a Yashica GSN from a member on the forum here (dreilly - thanks!) and am enjoying every second of it! I started out as a Minolta X-570 slr user (took two photo classes in high school), then went mostly to digital (Canon A70 and A95 which I now have) and have recently become very interested in rangefinders and film photography in general. By lurking on this site for a few weeks (and along with the help of some other sites) I decided that the GSN was for me and bought one. However, I have recently used my Dad's Yashica Lynx 14, and am VERY impressed with that camera :) (I like the super fast lens and the ability to shoot fully manual).

Anyway, just thought I'd introduce myself! Thanks for all the great information you guys have provided and I hope to be more active (with my limited knowledge) here soon!

Welcome to the madness, Patrick. I was a sophomore at university when I purchased my first
rangefinder -- a brand new Minolta Hi-Matic 7. It was ... shall we say ... some time ago ...

And I was at university (2nd year) when I visited home and found my father's old rangefinder camera in a closet!

Welcome to RFF. It's always nice to have those from the new generation appreciate the cameras from one or more generations ago.

Any chance your Father will let you use that Lynx 14? That F1.4 lens and soft release on the camera make a great combination.

The GSN is quite nice as well, has a sharp lens and bright RF spot.

Thanks guys!

Yeah, he'll let me use it when I'm at home for the weekend or a break, but I dont want to take it away from him when I'm at school. Anyone got one for sale? ;)

That's one way to get you to visit! I'll have to remember that when my Daughter goes to college. "Of course! You can use my RF's anytime you visit! You can bring one of the SLR's to school with you..."
