New Ikon Problem

X-ray

X-ray

I wish I could be like you....... I came to this with a very positive attitude. I would just love to shoot , shoot and shoot with out any problem. I know this is a very sophisticated system, with all the possible problems. However, they are charging a premium price and not making sure they deliver on their promise. :-(..... I mean, I can't even get to load the film....... gimmee a break. My old G2 will do that, no problem. ;-)

if you want the type of service that will inspect the camera before selling it then you need a brick & mortar store with knowledgeable sales people.
not likely to happen over the net unless you ask for it, like i have done in the past with stephen and tony.

the Zeiss Ikon limited edition was only made in silver, and was among the first production ZM cameras. Translation: your camera was sitting on the shelf about two years waiting to be sold.

B&H does not have the time to check cameras out before they are sold, large volume dealers generally don't do that.

It might take awhile to have Zeiss USA fix it, as the camera will probably get sent back to Japan. I would get a replacement black paint ZM body -- I think that finish looks a lot better than the silver ZM anyway.

Lincoln,
you may want to call Richard Schleuning of Zeiss USA and describe your problem to him. He is the Zeiss sales manager in the US. His phone number and email are:

Phone/Fax: 973-226-7387
Mobile: 973-809-3896
mailto: rschleuning@zeiss.com

I also have a silver limited edition and it works fine.
I also had previous experience with Tony Rose and B&H.
Tony would be my first choice.
I talked with both Richard and Tony and they are both very nice people.

I am sory to hear that you are having problems with your camera.
Don't give up on it. In my opinion, it is the best range finder camera out there.
Regards,
Zoran

It's a shame to see this sort of thing.
I'd like to see Zeiss suceede with this line. I'd like to own one some day.
With the relatively small RF community, it's pretty easy to make a bad name for a camera.

...it's pretty easy to make a bad name for a camera...

not really.
we hear all sorts of stories about new leicas and they still maintain their cult status despite needing repairs out of the box.

Decades of mostly positive inertia won't be overcome easily.
Ikons don't have that on their side.
