New in scale focus

Hi:

Just a presentation message. Two days ago I got my first scale focus camera (Rolley 35B like new, mechanical a estethic, 40€ / 50$). Tomorrow I'll develop two testing rolls I've taken this weekend...

Should I wait good results?
Is it a good price?
Should I work always at higher f stops to have greater deep of field and less danger of out of focus pics?

Hope I will find answers and enjoy this little cam.

That's a good price if the camera and meter work correctly, and you should expect good results. I try to use f/8 or f/11 when scale focussing.

It all depends on your distance guesstimation skills.. and on the amount of enlargement. From f8 onwards, most minor errors will be covered by the DOF of a 40mm lens. But wide open, unless you nailed down the distance really well, you'll be limited to something like 10x15cm (4x6inch).

When scale focussing ruled, print sizes were more like 6x9cm (2.5x3.5inch), and even then, when I look at the pictures my parents made (45mm scalefocus), a lot of them aren't sharp..

In case you are interested, I have just posted a depth of field (depth of focus) device that you can print and pocket. it may help when you're out with your camera 🙂

Thank you. With respect the deep of field thank you again, I remember I had a pentax camera where you can see directly the DOF in the lens after focusing... I always wanted to have that feature and now you give me the right tool...

I don't see how you could expect anything better Marsopa! Your pictures are sharp and full of color! It would appear that your camera is a winner!

Thanks again, I'm expecting a 400ASA roll I've used yesterday (I've found it in a drawer and it's three years out of date...) If there is a good shoot I'll post it...
