Recently I acquired a mint J9 chrome [7576213591] off of local (to me) eBay seller and saved on shipping. This rig is in mint shape. It was not advertised as a Jupiter — just that it was a Leica srew mount and that the aperature was stuck on F2.

Now that I have it in my hands, I figured out how the whole "pre-set" mechanism works. There is nothing wrong with this lens. Focus is REAl smooth. It is in outstanding shape. Paid US $22.05

I was hoping some other J9 users out there can advise on their experience using this lens. I don't think it is coupled...is that right? Guesstimate the distance? Also...what is the ideal stop for this lens with portraiture? Wide open? Couple of stops down?

Any comments would be most helpful.

Hi,
The LTM J9's are coupled. The trouble is you have not bought an LTM lens. It looks like one for the early Zenit SLR's! If so the flange/film plane distance is wrong and it won't work on an LTM camera without some sort of spacer ring. This would rather explain the low price.
