I just got my 1960 Jupiter 8 back from Brian Sweeney. He has checked the focus and lubed the focus ring. He suggested I post a shot to demonstrate so...

EDIT: I am trying to put this image inline as an image form Flickr, but the RFF editor keeps showing it as a broken link, apologies.

I am always dubious about posting portraits as they are usually only really meaningful to those who know the subject (IMO) but this shot, I think, captures the character of the lens, such that it has one. The J8 seems to work best on this type of environmental portrait.

Cropped slightly and some PP in Lightroom 3 to add a little grain and exposure.

I find that the cheapo LTM adapter doesn't fit my M9 as well as it did my M3, so my job this afternoon is to remove some material from the outside of the adapter with a dremel and see if that works.

The other issue I've found is that focusing the lens can sometimes cause the lens to unscrew from the adapter. I'm wondering if it would be worth drilling and tapping a hole through the adapter into the lens mount and fitting a small countersunk screw to keep it in place. I could also machine out the pits for coding at the same time.

Has anybody found the optimum code for this lens, I'm guessing a J3 would work as a pre-asph 'lux, so maybe this would be the same.

It's nice to know that there are some savings to be made on glass after the horrific expense of the M9...

Looks great! I have an early-70's black J-8 that takes excellent photos, and haven't even had it shimmed. I also have a late-50's J-3 that got the Sweeney Treatment, and it too is an excellent lens. When you find a good one, they can definitely hold their own, and there is no better value in Leica mount lenses.
