New KEH website: From bad to worse?

Easy when you know: put in the search box: Canon AND Rangefinder. And choose the right sub-category.

Thanks, but I tried that before my previous post. It does not return the result set as I stated. Canon RF lenses and nothing but.

The old site returns 10 -the exact 10 they have with 3 clicks. The new site returns 219, or 209 additional (non Canon RF) lenses in a grossly broad search ... and that takes 20 clicks.

I just posted a comment on their email contact. I tried to find a specific Nikon lens last week and got tired of paging through autofocus stuff to find a manual lens. I'm sure all the same items are there, but they are a lot harder to find. It makes the entire experience less than enjoyable.

......You couldn't pay me to buy from Adorama, B&H, or any of those Nu Yawk losers. I've had my fill of rude, pushy, unknowledgeable staff, lost shipping items, and having to go through an act of Congress to return something (that was invariably their fault)......

I was so very sorry to read that this has been your experience of ordering from Adorama, and would welcome the opportunity to understand more about the issues you have described.
However, as I'm unable to identify you without a bit more detail, I would be grateful if you could please email me directly: Helen@adorama.com with additional information plus relevant order number(s) - and I can give this my immediate attention.

Not to sidetrack this posse, but I always kind of enjoy calling B&H once I got used to what I think of as more NYC brusqueness than rudeness or pushiness. They certainly didn't like chitchat though. They were deep discounters and it was clearly an order line, but they always new their products and could answer the necessary questions if I'd already done my research on what I wanted to buy. I don't know if that is still true about film stuff.

I've also been impressed with Helen's representation of Adorama on the forums. A very smart move, I think. I ordered a bunch of film stuff from their website last night and it was very pleasant (wine might have played a part in that, and in the amount of film ordered). I was pleased that they even had the default box checked to not nag you with marketing emails, though I'll believe that when I don't see it.

The KEH site probably works for some better than others depending on what you are looking for. The classic version is a godsend for now; I actually smiled at the steam age page loading speed this time.

I have been doing business, happily, with KEH since some time in the mid 1980's, when they still had a showroom. Finding a piece of equipment that I wanted took moments on the old site. Since the change, I have had occasion to look for a specific piece of gear, and after being compelled, by the design, to browse [loosely related] items, I went elsewhere.

Too bad that they've "modernized" their site. Hopefully, they'll listen to feedback, and make it more user friendly.

Looks like crap. If they leave the classic view, fine, but if they stick with that new thing that looks like a tinker toy kludge with a colostomy bag on it, sorry, makes Windoze 8 look good...

And I bought a Chromebook because windows 8 is a steaming pile...

I don't know... the search works reasonably well after I tried a couple of approaches... sometimes they list up optional items that might be of interest, but easy enough to prioritize.

Thanks so much for the lovely feedback, which is always very much appreciated. I'm delighted to be able to assist whenever I can, and RF members are very welcome to email me directly: Helen@adorama.com
If I don't know the answer to your query, I'll do my best to find someone who does!

First time I used the old site at KEH, I was a bit put off by the 1997 interface - dating from early days of web commerce, it looked like.
I got used to it though and came to quite like it; once I'd familiarised with its quirks, I could find things quickly and accurately.
The new one fits better with the modern age, but is lacking in detailed camera-geekness. For example, if I'm being offered the chance to part with 700 or 800 spons for a bit of kit I don't want to see a 'representative picture' of the item, I want an actual pic of the real item for sale. Looks to me like some absolute fool has decided to save money by not taking pics of individual items and relying on the fallback position of 'no-quibble returns' if you're not happy.
Well, that's not good enough for me - I'm 3,000 miles away from KEH and the cost of return is prohibitive, so I'll likely not be buying any more if I'm unsure of the state of the gear - and a photo goes some way in that.

You have a point. They had made progress with the old site even using 360's of ithe actual items. I live close enough that regular shipping is overnight -and I still have not bought anything since the changeover.

The search function is terrible. If I'm looking for a 58mm filter, I'm not looking for every other size. I vote that this is a fiasco that makes it too troublesome to find what you are actually looking for.

Just type "58mm filter" in the search box and I get 125 results, alls 58mm filters or step-up. I don't know why you get other sizes.....

Sorry - that was an oversimplification.

Type in "67mm green filter" (which is what I last tried to find). You can scan the list, and only 13 of the 147 results actually contain the word "green," 71 out of the 147 contain "67mm," and none that I saw was a 67mm green filter.
