New kid on the R-D1 block...

I have looked at these for a long, long time. Do they make diopters for the viewfinder? I shot a Bessa R3A rangefinder a few years ago and if memory serves me correctly, I had one on that camera.

You know, I currently shoot a micro 4/3 system, and while I really love it, for years and years, I have missed the honest simplicity of shooting rangefinder cameras. I am not interested in a digital Leica, but I have been looking at one of these for a while now and it looks so simple and clean to use as compared to what I have been shooting with.

When I started out shooting digitally, I used Nikon DSLR's because of my work. However, the past few years I have slowly been downsizing in the size of my gear- first moving to the 4/3 system and then the m4/3 system. This may be just another step in my slow, regressive slide back to simpler times.🙂

By the way, I really enjoyed viewing your website.

IINM, it's the same as the diopter (and viewfinder accessories) for Nikon camera. Means the rubber cup and angle finder fits too.
The one I bought came with -3 diopter, so I trade it to an acquaintance's old Nikon's. Screw in without any problem.

Fuji's X series also used the same viewfinder diameter, so it should be compatible with theirs too.

Unfortunately Leica used their own proprietary size, so Leica's magnifiers won't fit.
 
Thanks for all the help. I did not realize that the Nikon diopters worked on the Bessas. I used diopters on my Nikon F3's as well, back in the day.
 
Rainer, are you able to work with the files in Lightroom, as that is what I use, too. I have version 3.6.

Also, post some more photos when you get a chance.
 
I used to work with the files in LR. But I find, that the original (and very outdated) Epson-SW, which I forgot the name of, made the most pleasing colors for the Epson. I never cared to really reproduce those in LR, but I guess it is possible.

Rick, I only use Lightroom 4 and in the first of my R-D1 days I see no problem with the files from the Epson. I will post a few pics tomorrow.
Congrats for your eBay buy, you will love it!
 
My RD-1 arrived in the mail yesterday. Now I am waiting on a Voigtlander 35mm lens to arrive. It should be here by Monday or Tuesday, as it is coming from Japan.

I plan to just use 3 lenses on the RD-1, the 35, a Voigtlander 21 or 15, and a Leica 50mm. I am not sure which Leica I will go with. I will decide that as I get closer to purchasing it.

I am impressed with the build quality of the camera and I am very impressed with the lack of buttons on the camera.🙂😎

Now, it is just a matter of training my old eyes to get used to manually focusing again. I have been shooting mostly autofocus cameras for over 8 years now. Should not be a problem, though. It's like riding a bike, right?
 
Curious, did you purchase the camera from Japan as well? Which seller. I am waiting on mine to be repaired or not and may be in the market for another body.

The first week with the R-D1 was a very fine photo week. Its much easier I thought to use the rangefinder. The 1:1 view is brilliant so you can have both eyes open. I never had that before and its a fantastic feature for me.
I'm surprised that also f1.2 and f1.4 is practical for the rangefinder:





So fare I`m very happy that I choose the R-D1. On my German photo blog I posted a few photos I took both with my GXR and the Epson. Interesting to see that the Epson delivers the much warmer pics. CCD is CCD.

No, I actually purchased the camera off ebay from someone who lives about 50 miles from me in Texas. However, the lens I ordered is coming from Japan.
