Thanks for the picture. The first thing, I thought, when I saw that metall-body beneath the skin was: "Terminator!"

I'm not sure about the back, yet, since only the front loosens.

still on the "terminator" line of thinking, sticking some skin coloured material with red edged gaps would make a very cool R-D1

I'd keep the original back and think of recovering when/if it starts peeling off. no need to worry about there.

just adding some feedback on griptac: I have had it on for 9 months, having used it in both very hot and humid weather (i live in brazil so it had a full summer of shooting) and below zero temperatures (went to vail, co in march), it's still flawless. really good material. i've never tried the other options from cameraleather but was curious about the rollei black texture, seems pretty grippy and elegant.
