New: Leica Lens Container

Nikon used to package its camera lenses in these things. Over the years in the 1970s I probably had a half dozen of them from new Nikkors I had bought. I never used them for anything and eventually threw them away. Of course the EL Nikkor lenses came this way too and, I think but could be wrong, Schneider also packaged their enlarging lenses in something like this. I never found them very useful. Back then all my lenses were in use and stored in camera bags or the enlarging lenses were on the enlargers.

Things are really bad when my absurdist sarcasm proves no match for reality.

I was just seeing your absurdist sarcasm and raising you one. The unboxing wasn't really that exciting after all. I don't know why people watch unboxing videos. It is sort of like going to a birthday party and watching the birthday boy open his gifts. Hard to get excited when someone else is getting all the toys. At least with birthday parties everyone gets a party favor for showing up.

You are right. Schneider enlarging lenses came packaged in something like this. Also the Mir 1v in M42 mount.

Think of unboxing videos as parties where everyone leaves with bad GAS instead of a party favor. Though even in in my worst spasms of acquisitive materialist greedy GAS I have never lusted over a lens case, Leica or otherwise. If it ever comes down to that, please shoot me.

I have always thought that unboxing videos were foul, regardless of whether the product had a red meatball or not. The same goes for firearms, computer gear or anything else seen on Youtube. Just gross

Back when something possessed me to own a Kodak Retina IIIS and Retina Reflex S (the only examples I can recall of a 35mm rangefinder and SLR designed to accept the same line of lenses) most of my nice Schneider lenses came in bubbles like these. Some of them (unlike the Leica bubble) had a metal plate in the base to engage the bayonet lugs; on the ones that didn't, the lugs wore out pretty quickly.

I can hate on Leicaphiles for just about anything, but these domes seem okay to me. It would be silly to chuck them in a camera bag when you're going out to shoot, but they seem like a tidy solution for shelf storage while making it easy to be sure you're grabbing the right lens off the shelf.

Lens bubbles are great, and they should be included with the lens. Make them in several sizes, too.
