Thanks Dan! I didn`t have one of those "K"`s in my list

LOT 12 in this auction was "the" camera.......

#390452K
Ex Leni Riefenstahl/Theo Kisselbach 1945 Leica IIIC K "Grey" from US Army delivery, she used the camera in the 1950`s and early 60`s and it`s one of the few times that a Grey "K" model was modified to IIIF BD (I saw only one other one in Frankfurt back in 1995)

PS: I guess the photos are too big so go click on the jpg. links :)

Great work this guide, but I wonder why the black dial IIf fetches less than the red dial. In the rarity stakes it quite a lot less common, apparently 8400 made.

Maybe this is because the IIfs are seen by some as being a lot less sexy than the IIIfs or maybe it is just because no one knows...

Well the Leica IIF Black Dial is s SLEEPER camera, my opinion it`s a real collectable....(very very hard to find original - without being converted to a IIIF or at least having a new top plate)

I had a 1951 that was Mint- with a EX+++/Minty "under one million" *radioactive* F2.0 Summicron 50mm which I got a $800 trade for in 1996 (pretty good then) but I wish I still had that camera as well as my "first" Leica which was a "matching numbers" 1939 Leica IIIa Model G with it`s original f2.0 Summitar 50mm (I sold that for a little under $300 in 1996 too)

Agreed. Mine is 57xxxx and is original, including the comparatively crude 'economy' accessory shoe. It has the best Elmar on it that I have ever had. Not red scale or anything but just simply perfect with an unmarked barrel et al. I bought this camera thinking, as I always do, that I would trade it on for something else pre-war, black and converted. It's turned out to be a great camera to use and I will not now part with it.

Apart from Leicaflexes, I wonder what other Leica could be described as a 'sleeper'?
