The last issue of LFI is very interesting:
1. an in-depth analysis of Leica's long-term strategy. The move towards products priced for a wider market in addition to the current niche products is confirmed.
2. Buried in a column, a hint at a confirmation that a new film camera is the pipeline
3. An perceptive review of noise and noise reduction in the three new Leica camera's with resolution comparisons

Hello Vladimir and Magus,

According to my sources that filmcamera is targetted at those wider markets Jaap mentions .......a APS size point and shoot filmcamera i was told ... 😉

I'm not so sure about that. The quote, in the context of the M8, is thus:

...the exposure medium has changed - which is not to exclude the possibility of a future return to an analogue model, something that one Leica employee could not entirely discount....

A CL2 would probably do pretty well for Leica. They could update the 40mm Summicron or just use the current 50mm Elmar. They don't need a new 90mm as the 90mm Macro would do fine. These days the meter wouldn't even have to fly around on a lollipop stick anymore. Metal shutter, sure - then in due course a full frame CL-D. The thing is the first time 'round the CL cut too deeply into their M sales so I doubt they'll go there again.

I'm not so sure about that - I don't think camera's are the most profitable part of their business - In last analysis they build camera's to sell lenses.

They just need to put all the 40mm Summarit Lenses from Minilux's with the EO2 Error into M mount barrels. Thats real recycling.

Magus, a close friend of mine who made a living on taking pictures for encyclopedias in their heyday longed for that. The issue was the NTSC, PAL and SCAM all suck for stills. I am sure that HD might be better and computers have come a long way to putting together two frames for one image is a lot easier than it was 25 years ago. I’ve had no need (business-wise) to dive into HDTV standards the way I did way back when (when video cards for a Mac were $700). I think you might be right, if the tools develop the right way, PHD still cameras could be a thing of the past.

ManGo, the M5 was a wonderful learning experience for Leica and the industry. Think of how crappy the M8 would be if Leica did not learn a critical lesson back in the 70s! The funny thing is now that the M5 seems to have a bit of a cult following as we’ve seen here. One mans trash is another mans treasure.

Did leica say anything about leveraging the R lenses onto a 4/3s mount? That I think is their best chance to make some serious money in a reasonable time frame.

They have this adapter that allows all R lenses to be used-without automatic aperture though.
