I'm not the only one here that has bought a used M8 or M8.2 since the M9 was announced. Thanks to a number of people selling the older Digital cameras to finance an M9, or just getting away from Leica, a lot of M8's have appeared at great prices compared to a year ago.

I'm waiting for mine, coming in. I know a few more people that bought them recently-

So, who has picked up an M8 or M8.2 recently?

and for Longtime users: Tips and experiences with using the camera are appreciated.

I just picked up one in mid December. Having borrowed one for a week in November, and seeing some of the M8 photos posted here...I was swayed. The price had become quite attractive as well!

I've had mine for about a week and I think it's tremendous. Now that I have the SD card issue sorted out (neither of my 8gb ones worked right, and I kept getting the "SD card full" error) and my IR filters have come in, the camera is a dream. And the files are incredible.

I will probably do a writeup in a few days and will post it in a new thread--I think the M8 is a great camera to get right now.

Brian, where did you get yours from?

I picked mine up from the RFF ad on Saturday. Could not resist, seller had it on Amazon. Answered a series of questions about the warranty, and I picked it up. It should be in this week.

That Summar looks good on yours. I'll be trying that combo as well.

My M8 has been my main camera for almost two years now, is that really so???

Anyway, my tip is to choose DNG, format the cards before using them - and then just use it for what it is intended for!

I will have to wait a while before picking up nr. 2, having spent insane amounts of money on Sony eDSLR...

The fun thing is that the files from the M8 still looks better than the 24.5 mpix sony! And that is with CV glass compared to Zeiss... :)

I just got mine a week ago. Been pretty happy with it so far, but now I need to pick up some lenses. I've been looking at Voigtlander, Zeiss and Leica so far. Had a Lux 50/1.4 (v1) but I didn't really like it (it's possible that the lens had some haze and/or fungus). Any other suggestions?

I just recently traded out my M8 for an M8.2.
I've been using an M8 since they were launched. As someone who doesn't have the time to process all the film I'd like to shoot, this has been a liberating camera.

Advice: Get at least one spare battery. I'd also rip off that factory covering and replace it with something from Camera Leather, etc. It improves the handling so much.
If you do a lot of telephoto shooting, you might want a 1.25 magnifier.

Done, and done. I applied my new griptac today. The original covering is really terrible, I must say--at least for getting a good grip.

I've just entered the world of rangerfinder photography by buying a used M8.2. Due to arrive tomorrow. I'm getting ready for a sleepless night tonight reading this forum for advice on lenses.

Feel free to ask me to test just about any classic Leica or Zeiss 5cm lens on an M8 very soon...

I have around Thirty 50mm lenses in LTM and M-Mount...

I also succumbed to an M8 this week, trading in my M7 and only paid a relatively modest amount on top.

Until recently I didn't really plan on getting an M8 and though I had some new Leica lenses I've since sold off most of them as I prefer the look of different lenses on film, which now means my M8 will be wearing from time to time:
- LTM Summarit 50/1.5
- Summar 50/2
- Summitar 50/2
- Collapsible Summicron-m 50/2
- Elmar f3.5
- Tele-elmar 90/2.8 (thin)
alongside some newish Voigtlander and Zeiss lenses.

I'm looking forward to seeing how the vintage and the modern work together.

I can pretty much assure you that you'll spend more than just tonite reading about lenses.
If you aren't careful, you can really get caught up in that. Just know going in that there are tons of great lenses out there and you can never have them all - barring a willingness to spend absurd amounts of money.
If you try to find "the perfect lens" you may go mad.
Seriously. I'm not joking.
Well, maybe just a little.:)

Ummm... It might be a good idea to upgrade to the latest firmware...

I got a used, scruffed-up M8 at a discount from Popflash last year. Overall, I'm generally OK with it but I really haven't used it much in recent months. While I thought I would use the M8 a lot when I got it (and I did so for the first couple of months), I still take my MP with me everywhere I go. I'm not sure if it's a "film thing" or the crop factor (or some combination of the two), but it has certainly tempered my desire for an M9.

I bought the M8 twice last Year
once to try ...didn't like
once out of guilt not giving it a Fair Chance
both cameras were Fine
but I was Bored to Tears with the Images....;(

It is a Fab cam /except having to take out your card
but everything is just too CLEAN & Refined... lacks some soul
no cutting edge or the the way light reads w/Film ....unless you want to do PP

I guess I'm not a DIGI Gal... so that was MY problem

Other People Post Fab shots w/ the M8
but I lost Interest

If you plan to do b&w conversions, I highly recommend the photoshop plug-in, Silver Efex.
Really a very nice program that's easy to use while giving a wide range of b&w effects.

It's not terribly cheap. But then, neither was the M8. Or most of the lenses you'll put on it.

I bought a M8 just before Christmas, and am loving it. I used a Leica IIIf and M2 in my youth...still have both, but when I switched to digital I went with a DSLR. I still have a Canon 5DII, but it sits in the case and cries everyday when I leave w/ the M8.
