New M8 Firmware (2.0) !!!!!!!

It looks it adds:
1- the very much asked for support for SD-HC cards up to 32GB
2- the ? Auto ISO function, I suppose very similar to the "S" shutter position in the M8.2

In the accompanying PDF is it clearly stated you cannot revert to previous firmware versions after having updated to 2.0.... scary

Not a word about better noise management at high ISOs or a better JPEG compression algorythms, etc etc, but I suppose it's OK to see upgrades a step at a time.

I'd wished it included the mapping of the EV compensation to the rear dial

Any braves out there to test drive it?

I'm just waiting and reading the other forum users comments about it. So far, no lock ups, no strange sounds, no explosions....

Do you notice any changes in noise reduction at the highest ISOs?

ok...ISO performance is definitely improved as is AWB....this is 2500 ISO on AWB with a wild mix of sun, tungsten and fluorescent light shot in jpeg mode with no noise reduction done.

not the greatest image, but it was as tricky a lighting condition i could find while unpacking from my move.


edit....this sucks...i need a new workflow getup now...i may actually shoot jpegs.

Thank you Thomas, it looks like they actually improved iso 2500 performance. Could you please post a 100% crop of the image with some shadows in it?

My compliments to Leica designing a simple and straight forward way of firmware updating. It took me less than 2 minutes and it was working! I spent most of a day to find out how to up-date my 1Ds III - struggling with an illogical and idiotic procedure, very Japanese, like 'how to perform harakiri without a sword' - type of a thing. You Canon-guys go f... yourself!

And now I have this 18 months old and quite worn,- but loved, M8, - now with an AUTO ISO! Amazing!

tmfabian, you wouldn't happen to have a similar picture pre-upgrade? That's a nice high ISO image. It looks like the only thing missing in this update is a harder LCD and a quieter shutter thunk/wiz. Bob.

I've got a ton of iso 2500 shots over in the post your iso 2500 shots thread (http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=62047) but nothing similar to what i just posted.

Although I'm quite eager for night time to roll around so I can take this puppy on a real workout stroll.
