New Macbook Air, no luck with Vuescan

I have bought my self a new shiny Macbook Air with a i7 CPU. It's a 64 bit CPU.

I'm having no luck getting Vuescan (both 64 bit and 32 bit) to find my Opticfilm 8100.

I have installed the Plustek driver, Silverfast 8 and Vuescan 32 bit (after researching the problem).

Thoughts?

Is the scanner a direct connection and not thru a hub? That has been a problem before.. Try a different USB port?

Have tried both USB ports. No hub.

It scans with Silverfast, which rules out any usb problem and specifies VueScan as the problem.

edit: I was too quick to celebrate..

Sure Vuescan now gets the 8100 to move and do something. But no negative gets scanned, no blank image-file, no nothing. Just 'Click scan, scanner moves forward and back, nothing'.

Silverfast works, but I have no idea how to just get a raw tiff file of a negative scan out of that software..

Ideas?

edit: I will erase the hard drive, reinstall OS X and do it from scratch.

Before u go thru all this, have u reported the problem to the sw developer?

It's up and running now 😀

Make sure you don't install wrong bit-version (64bit) and version (not 9.1.x). I removed the 64bit/outdated version with AppCleaner, and installed a 9.2.x 32bit but it didn't seem to matter much. Scanner-head moves, no image is given. Why I had a 9.1.x version in 64bit, I just don't know 8-/

I reinstalled Mountain Lion to get a fresh start as it seemed that OS X just would not recognise that the 32bit VueScan was in effect, that all should be fine.

Installed everything like this:

1. Plustek driver, quick and easy.

2. SilverFast which I did not start up to enter serial (only install).
A note on SilverFast install on MacBook Air. As the Air doesn't have a dvd drive, I shared the DVD drive from my iMac through OS X sharing function 'Remote Disc'.

3. VueScan 32bit, up-to-date version, enter serial, set up scan settings.

4. Restart computer, just to be sure.

5. Test a scan, success!

I did the same thing with my 2013 MacBook Air (and 2013 MacMini) without having to reinstall OS X. I did not use a DVD drive, I just downloaded the SilverFast trial and opened it once. Then I manually deleted the bulk of the SilverFast application manually.

Vuescan is driving me nuts with my LS50.
Not responding at all. I've re-installed it several times.
Ready to go find an old MS Laptop and old nikon scan simply for scanning tasks which is insanely stupid in 2013!
All was working fine before the most recent update. I just don't get it.

Sounds like a regression was introduced. It happens. Report it to Ed Hamrick, then go back to the last working version until he issues an update.
