Hello all,

I've just joined the forum, and my intention is to be a good member and contribute and engage. But I do also have an ulterior motive..

I'm a bit stuck. I'm a big fan of rangefinders, and I've been an enthusiastic Leica M user for over 20 yers.

But recently I sold my Rolleiflex 2.8F (I just could never get on with it) and replaced it with a Plaubel Makina 67. I've already put a dozen films through it, and it is an absolute breeze to shoot with. Lovely bright viewfinder, portable, and the negatives just sparkle.

But there's a problem. And I have searched high and low online for advice, but there doesn't seem to be much out there on this camera. I've come here in the hope that some knowledgable member might be generous enough to give me his or her thoughts on this.

I was shooting some pictures the other day - with the Plaubel Makina 67 (it's the original version) - when it began to lightly rain. I didn't want to fold the bellows away with spots of rain on them, so I carefully tried to just dab the drops of moisture away. There is a groove on the top of the square panel the lens is attached to. This is the groove that the left 'tong' of the bellows runs from left to right in. As soon as I touched that, the oblong piece of metal visible in the groove fell inside the housing. So there's now a hole. I can see the piece of metal inside the hole. But it's now loose, rattling around, and not where it should be. And there's a hole in the top of the housing. Camera is still light tight - I ran a test film through and it's fine - and the bellows still open and close smoothly.

I appreciate that this camera is over 40 years old. But I just wondered if anyone else had experienced this. It looks as though the whole camera would need to be taken apart to look at this problem. There don't seem to be many people online who have a Plaubel Makina 67.

Would be incredibly grateful if anyone could throw some light on this. I know it's a slim hope. And apologies for joining, and immediately asking questions.

Very best wishes,

Colin

Hi Colin,

Congrats on the camera. I miss mine terribly. What you describe has not happened to me but if you live in Europe, I suggest you get it shipped to Germany to a repairer.

Plaubel themselves not offering that service, I have a couple of links to photo shops saved that I can PM you if you want.

All the best,

All the best,

That's helpful, and thanks very much for your response. And would take you up on your offer of a PM of links
