New Olympus 35SP Photos

I have added four new Olympus 35SP shots, made on Fuji NPH 400, to one of my 35SP gallery album. For a couple of shots I used an auxillary close-up/macro lens. To discover the close focus distance, I had opened the camera back (without film of course!), taped in a piece of acetate in the film gate, and focused on an object.

Yeah, I know, this is not something one should be doing with an RF, but hey, it was an idea that I just had to try. Naturally, parallax is a problem, but all-in-all I think it works OK.

Reala 100 or similar would have worked better, but for a 400 speed film, not too bad.

thanks for sharing, interesting experiment.

Something about a great bottle of beer with the OOF rendition that just tugs at a man's heart.

Or maybe it is because the OOF bokeh is automatically duplicated in my brain after a few bottles ;-)

I sense momentum growing for a "Camera and Beer" stickie thread 😀

Tom: Great idea ... I'm sure the volume of posts would be considerable. Maybe it would become a "Beer & Bokeh" thread. ;-)

In my case, I'm more likely to post to a "Camera and Wine" thread. Probably both threads would be subject to maximal OOF areas, as you imply!

Great shots. The Durand Eastman park photo is gorgeous.
I love the G.Zuiko lens in the Olympus 35SP.
Actually I like the whole camera.
I should use it more.

Got to love the Saranac beer ... I prefer the Black and Tan but anyways...

The best part is the label is not totally in focus however the www.saranac.com is tack sharp 🙂

I like the shots alot makes me want to put some Reala through my Natura

Gene: You devil. You know damn well I have a small room full of OMs, a bellows unit, etc.! Trying to get me to add yet another mount? Shame! 😕 And why would I want to do it the easy way and break with my life tradition?

IG: Yes, the main part of the label isn't in focus; at these distances and with measuring with a ruler while handholding, exact focusing is a trick. And yes, I too prefer the black and tan.

your Olympus 35 SP shots make me really hot on the first two rolls of film I will get this evening after my Olympus 35 SP got her CLA! 😛

I will also get the scanned images from the lab so I hope to post some of this pictures very soon! 😀

I made many shots but a lot of them are too dark, probably I should use more often the spot metering of the camera to get more light into the darks.

this old little camera has really an amazing lens build in! it makes so much fun to shot with this camera!

Excellent! I think that given the contrast range you did very well with exposures. And C41 b&w films seem to be very contrasty when rated at 400 or underexposed. So yes, experiment with the spot meter and/or rate the film at 320 or even 250.

I've rated both films (Ilford XP 400 & FujiFilm Neopan 400 CN) at 320. next time I have a low light situation I will rate it a 250.

I like them dark. My monitor at works renders most photos dark and these were pretty good. So I"m sure at home, on my Mac, they will be real nice.
