New owner of a GSN

Hi,

I've been reading the rf forum and I've finally bought one Yashica GSN on ebay... and I'm just loving it!
Although it was a bit pricey, I think it's in excellent condition:

I'll post some pictures taken with this camera soon...
Meanwhile, I have some questions to ask... 🙄 🙄

(a) How should I store it? I don't like to use the ER case, so I'm keeping it on a bag, but the camera would be sideways - is this a problem?
(b) Compared to my Canon QL17 GIII, the finder is wonderfull, much brighter... Is it supposed to be or I just happen to own a Canon with a dark finder?
(c) What color film do you consider to be the perfect fit for this camera? any recomendation?
(d) where can I find an original Yashica GSN neck strap? or a good substitute?

I'm sorry if something is less correct with this post, but I'm a rf newbie and my english could be better... 😎

Try out some of the Portra UC films with it. I think members have used the GSN with nearly everything.

Frankly, the original Yashica neck strap is made out of a very stiff vinyl and is, literally, a pain in the neck! If I were you, I would look for a nice soft cloth strap. I think you would like that a lot more.

JMHO, however...

By the way, your English is a lot better than my Portuguese... 😀

After getting my Yashica GT back from G'man and running a roll of film through it, every single exposure, taken inside and out, was dead on accurate. Bravo!

I have the original "Yashica, Made In Japan" strap on it. You can have it if you send me a fine newish soft thin strap to replace it. Or, if you really want that strap (like new), I'll sell it for $10 plus $5 S/H in the US. I have 3 of them.

I'm serious. I have it.

I agree, I so wanted to use the original strap that came with my GSN that for months I didn't realize what was making the camera such a pain in the butt to use. The Yashica strap is very awkward.

I don't know any brands, but get a nice soft strap with a piece of rubber (or similar), so that it won't slip of your shoulder.

Personally I don't like to buy stuff I can make myself, so I use the strap that came with my camcorder, and sewed on a suitable piece of thin rubber myself.

I totally agree.

I prefer soft nylon straps.

However, I have three original straps and I would rather sell them than have them sit in a box.

Some people would rather have an all original system, so, I have the straps.

I'm using the strap that comes with the case for the tele/wide lens. The make of the strap fits well with the beauty of the camera.

An excellent photo Todd. G'man just sent my camera back to me on Saterday but I havn't recieved it yet. I'm looking forward to getting it back. As for the strap, I have a neoprene"photo-flex" made by Op-tech I've always toated my Nikons around with. It's pretty comfortable if you're carrying the camera all day but a little overkill if just going for a short walk. I also like the soft cotton or nylon 1/2 inch wide straps.

Tell me something Russ, what do you do with 12 Electro 35s (down from 37)? Is it a fetish? I thought I was being a little excessive buying my 2nd Yashica.

Just doing the eBay thing...

I had an Electro in the early 70's (my first 35mm) so decided to run a search on eBay just for the heck of it. Found a load of them for not too much money...and the rest is history!!

Taught myself how to fix them, with the help of all the great info I found at Yashica Guy's site, Matt's Cameras, etc.

I think there are a couple of folks on the forum here that have one or two of my camera's. Everyone's been happy with them so far...

Have one on now, with another nearing completion.

@ groucho marx .. your english is better than some members who know no other language!

Neck strap... why bother, put the camera in a back / shoulder bag or carry it in your hand. I do.

Film.. Kodak Gold 200 is a good place to start. Lots of pop to the colour. Fuji Acros for BW.

Post in the "Show us a photo from your Yashica" thread by Jon Flanders, good luck it looks like a camera in beautiful condition

I usually like to use a strap since I fell more safe not worrying about a possible drop, etc.

Meanwhile, I've left in that thread some of my first photos taken with this camera.
