I know some of you hate speculation/rumor threads, but there's a good one ongoing at Pentax Forums here.

Looks like a new Pentax! Smaller, more angular (retro?) body design...if it's a compact full frame, I will be really stoked. From the thread:

ooh, why isn't it full frame? whyyyyy?

that said, i'll be happy if the aspect ratio is 4:3.

It isn't either, but better AF and high iso performance will make it very attractive to me.

FF, I would buy it. If not, my other two are fine. I tend to leave one lens (prime) on DSLRs. So FF would give me a place for my 20mm Pentax Lens. Other than that I have no reason to think about it. The quality gain from APS-c to FF in very minor. So, why bother (except the macho factor) if you don't have another reason to buy.

I've always been a little bothered by the K20D's plastic exterior, 1/4000 max shutter speed, and a few other little things. I also am excited about the more square-looking styling of this new camera, though there haven't been any full photos available yet. It'll be expensive, I'm sure, but I will probably buy one when the price goes down.

Full frame...for a while, I really thought I cared...but I just don't anymore. There are advantages to APS-C, especially now that I'm doing more portrait-length type stuff...I'm really enjoying using my 50's on the R-D1, and I'd like to buy the Pentax 77mm Limited sometime, as well.

Anyway, I'm just glad Pentax is still a going concern!

If they had awesome high iso capability (clean shooting at 1600) to go with the in-body stabilization, I would be all over that with some old super takumar lenses. :D

what DSLR does not have a plastic exterior? or are you talking about magnesium shells?

would be interesting if the high iso performance equals a Canon 5D.

The previous pentaxes were always best in class (the old 6MP ones).

I thought I didn't care either... until I saw what a RAW image from a Canon 5D can withstand in post-processing. As much as 2.5 stops of exposure compensation, and it still maintains the clean look (it doesn't degenerate into a mush of grey or blown out white).

You should read how the body of the K20d and the K10d are made. They win hands down on dust and weather proofing. I'm not so sure that the Canons are any more solid.

Pentax 645 Digital!!!!!

Pentax 645 Digital!!!!!

Ahh,

I am waiting to see the new Pentax 645 digital.

I heard it is being revived. and they are serious about producing it.

That has me VERY excited!!!! , especially with all of those used inexpensive but excellent 645 lenses out there!!!

That is a BOMBSHELL from Pentax!!!

Oh no, you're right--I have no qualms at all about the durability of the K20D. It's just a matter of feel. This is a very small point--I'm honestly not that fussy. Better low-light IQ, however, would be a huge advantage.

BTW, the kit lens that the new camera will sell with is a weatherproofed version of their usual kit lens...it'll be a totally weatherproofed semi-professional kit in a very small package...quite nice!

looks like it's a d300 shrunk down to the size of a d90, except for reals.

what's that button/bump next to the af lamp? dpreview skips over it.

Holy crap, this camera looks AWESOME. I am very excited. Built-in distortion correction for DA and FA lenses, 1/8000, embedded copyright data, 5.2fps, automatic leveling by turning the sensor, built-in HDR processing for bracketed exposures, magnesium body, SMALL, and kinda looks like it goes with the LX. And HD video, of course, which I don't really give a crap about, but which might be fun.

That photo that said f/1.0 wasn't a fake, BTW. I think that's just what the camera says when there isn't a lens on it, or a pre-A-series lens.

The bump next to the AF lamp is a mystery--nobody seems to have addressed it anywhere. Very odd.

I really, really want to see some ISO 1600 and 3200 images, though.
