Australia/New Zealand New Photography Show Airs Abc Thursday Night

I thought the "winner" was lucky to crack it with a very good landscape as her approach seemed very haphazard.

I think she did exactly what was needed for not knowing the equipment by keeping it simple - and it would have pained me to see her try to change a lens in that weather! She would have been a lot better off had she remembered the lens hood though.

I did like this episode better than the first. The previous was a bit cringe-worthy with the contestants not knowing what the heck to do and the subjects compelled to offer assistance. But I guess that makes for better TV ratings.

I had a little smile at the episode with instamatics/P&S cameras. The contestants got carried away with the simple camera and not the aim of the exercise. ie a picture of a 'Day at the races'.

I grew up with simple cameras and the bottom line is snap what you see. Work it out later. PS is wonderful! They had all this stuff available which we never had. They seemed unable to accept the concept.

And they had to wait for processing! Help!

The episode with crappy plastic cameras irritated me. I suppose it was a good test of the contestants' ability to quickly deal with the unfamiliar. And it's good for the televiewers who seem to thrive on novelty.

Of course I agree with Murray that simple cameras are best. But for me a simple camera is a rangefinder or older SLR. Nice to see film used in a national TV show, but not in as "wow, this is SO old fashioned."

I might add that I do qualify as a Grumpy Old Man.

I'm enjoying the series so far. Like most of you I roll my eyes at some of the contestants knowledge of equipment - but I guess that's what the competition is all about - being outside your comfort zone.

i enjoy the show...there really isn't much to compare it to...we have nothing like it in canada that i'm aware of.
i liked the toy camera episode more than i thought i would and the wedding episode just brought back bad memories...

Just watched the plastic camera episode. I was laughing so hard when the guy was trying to use two cameras at once and ended up shooting the Holga through the viewfinder of the fisheye.

Yes! So was I, my girlfriend and I were laughing out loud. Then I had the thought that perhaps it was intentional and he was trying to take a photo through the Fisheye's viewfinder.
Hard to tell, he'd never heard of 120 film before the show.

I was just looking through Andrew G's flickr photos taken with his X-pan.

The guy's a pretty good photographer IMO.

This weeks fashion episode was pretty good. I always wanted to do fashion.

Next weeks episode looks to be street photography, and shooting with Leica's!

"Photojournalism" I think; and with M9s. :) They should make them use M3s, with no meters, and develop their own films to a deadline!

i haven't seen the lastest Fashion episode yet (was too busy watching Masterchef :p), but the series has been interesting thus far. i too have been annoyed with the contestants at times, but eh. i can only imagine what things i'd be freaking out about if i were in their shoes...

the most interesting thing about the show, to me, is seeing various types and aspects of professional and commercial photography that i otherwise wouldn't see, such as studio portraiture and fashion photography.
