Kicking off a new project. I'm going to be (hopefully) exploring some of the smaller communities in and around East Texas over the coming months. Started off this week with Kilgore, Texas, a college town with its roots in the Texas oil industry. I'm hoping to make several visits and get to know some of the people of the community. Here's a sample from the first shooting day Sunday, Feb. 14, 2016, all with a Pentax Spotmatic SP w/ a Vivitar 28mm f2.8 lens on Ilford FP4. I've started a new album on Flickr for the images.

Take a look and let me know what you think. Anyone in eastern Texas with any suggestions, recommendations are welcome.

Very nice pictures. I took some pictures around the same sections in Kilgore during a very hot October day a few years ago, and I like your pictures better.

If you want to venture north of I-30, downtown Leonard is a nice place, with an old-style town square. Ladonia is interesting, as is Honey Grove. Both of those towns have run-down and vacant buildings that may or may not suit your vision. I have also thought of a project to take pictures "From Athens to Paris - Texas" purely because of the names.

I look forward to seeing your pictures of East Texas.

Here is a picture of downtown Leonard.

P.S. If you take pictures in Leonard, and see a white haired 80-ish-year old lady being assisted by a black woman, DO NOT TAKE HER PICTURE! I did, and she made vow to destroy the negative and picture, for religious reasons. I did destroy the negative (which never was printed), as I promised her. It was an interesting way to meet the locals.
