I have taken the option of the olympus pen away as I just cannot tempt myself any further- it's too much money
I largely want this camera to build my portfolio with
I had a gr digital that I loved until I destroyed it and it took some destroying! so am presently leaning toward a gx200 but need help deciding the ins and outs of it all as I am not overly familiar with each- despite having actually owned a gx200 at one point and sold it in am oment of stupidness.....embarrasing story indeed.

The g10 is larger, bulkier and mine had a shutter delay that I did not like. The g9 had a nicer feel but also had the delay. The gx200 is tempting me as well so I will be watching this thread.
I am not familiar with the g1.

I have both. They are both fun to use and loaded with great features. I consider the gx200 more of a serious tool but both can produce spectacular results. I miss the gx 100 for it's more film looking B&W files. But the gx200 is noticeably sharper and has many more features. the gx has the square format which I also like and use. For those used to rangefinders I think the gx is more like one, something about the feel of it. All that said, I find myself using the gx less these days and it might wind up on the classified soon. The g9 will be kept since my wife uses it quite often. Bob.

why do all these new compacts have * a million zoom?!
there's an olympus compact with *26 zoom...do you think that does the lens in at all? or is that silly theory

These cameras have great lenses, all of them. The new computer designs and other things that are beyond me give a great end result. I think that other reasons than the zoom ratio are important too. The gx200 has the smallest size, good if you want to carry the camera all the time. The g10 is bigger, not as pocketable. The g10 has a useable viewfinder, the gx200 has an optional electronic viewfinder that is quite good. Both have real good LCD's, the g10 would be slightly better and larger. The gx200 feels better in the hand, fits like a glove, and can be used more easily with one hand. Bob.
