I recently went for an R-D1s from a RFF user. I heard great and bad things about this camera. But after owning it for about 2 weeks, I fell it love with the camera. I use it with the 12mm Heliar and the 50mm Millenium Nikkor. Here a few shots from the R-D1s and the 12mm ! But now, I want an M8...

Some nice shots there. I've had my RD1 a few years now and I still prefer it to the M8. Yes the M8 is quieter. the screen biigger and the controls probably less fiddly but I still enjoy the Epson.

The M8 has little to offer over the RD-1 for me ... it's better at high ISO, (1600 is very usable ... not so on the M8) the crop factor difference is minor and the camera is a lot more fun to use! The only advantage IMO is the larger file size. I also prefer the 1:1 viewfinder of the Epson.

And as Joe said ... welcome to the fold. :)

I am fortunate to compare the M8.2 to my R-D1 for 2 weeks....
I end up keeping the R-D1 & sold the M8.2, to me the Leica doesn't worth the work in LR.
The OOC files from the R-D1 are hard to beat.

Just found out about this RD-1...now where did i go before this ?? looks cool maybe I need to find a good used one ...how many pixel for it ? what is the latest version ?

6.1 Mp - does not accept SDHC cards.

The latest version (RD-1G, if I remember correctly) do accept SDHC cards, but I would not pay the extra price.

Hehe, indeed, it seems a difficult choice... I've been reading a lot about this debate (M8 vs RD1), but most of the discussions are a few years old. Now the price difference isn't that big... Anyway, I guess I'll have to figure out what do it ! Meanwhile, the R-D1s is such a joy to use.

Donz, the R-D1x (R-D1xg with a grip) is the lastest model, you loose the swivel screen, gain a bigger screen and SDHC support. Not worth it, IMHO... It dates from 2009. Same 6.1mp sensor from the Nikon D100.
