New Rd 1 ?

I have been informed of a unused Rd1 available , not the latest .

Given that they are now discontinued - would any of you invest £ 1200 or USA equivalent ?

I am just not sure ...

Well at this price in the UK I think it depends on what sort of warranty you will get with the camera. Robert White is still selling the RD-1s new from stock (although this is also now officially discontinued) for £1462 with a full years warranty. I have seen 'mint' secondhand R-D1's from dealers in the UK at between £850 - £1,000 usually with 3 or 6 months warranty from the dealer.

If its a private sale with no warranty then £1,200 sounds a bit expensive. Given the problems reported in this forum (although my RD-1 has not had any from new in 2.5 years) some sort of warranty would be advisable. In any case new or secondhand you should try to check the camera for some of the most obvious problems reported here before purchase.

Ffordes in Scotland are at present listing an RD-1 (slight signs of use) with 6 months warranty for £899.

Ffordes are a friendly reputable dealer who would probably check the camera out for you before shipping.

Unfortunately UK prices are always higher and Epson USA will not export refurbs to the UK and HM Customs would probably add about 20% in duties if they did.

Thanks everyone ... I really ''want '' an M8 - but an Rd1 would do all that I need .
Whichever it's quite an outlay [ but I won't total up my 9 months Red mist ]
An inheritance makes a Leica a possibilty ... even if ihave to sell it if computers have really killed my Interior Illustrator career ... it would be quite an experience ... i guess I will have to deecide soon ... at least I may be able to show some pics then !
