Currently, when I want to catch up on a thread that I've been following, I need to click on the button that takes me to the last post in that thread. Then, to get to where I left off in reading the thread, I need to scroll back to find the last post I read. On other forums, the software remembers the last post I read and just clicking on the thread title takes me right to the next new post in the thread. I pick up right where I left off. It's so nice. There is also a little red box on the upper right corner of each new post that says "new". This feature would make the site much more pleasurable.

A simple drag and drop of photo files would be helpful to those of us who would like to post images but don't use photo hosting sites or the galleries here on RFF.

Great idea! That would make things easier.

And if possible, could the maximum file size be increased?

Please preserve the present use of BBCODE at least with respect to {IM***, {URL}, and basic text formatting tags ({CENTER}, {I}, {B}, {INDENT}, etc).

I post my photos to Flickr.com and use it as an image server on many different forums and mailing lists, posting images via links to Flickr ... Having BBCODE supported means I can just using the Flickr sharing facility and drop the supplied BBCODE string it creates into a post to facilitate image posting, without having to recopy and re-insert image files in some other format.

Photrio/APUG does this and it is really helpful. It will take you right to the first post made in a thread after your last visit, even if the thread has been dormant, or if you haven’t looked at it, for months. So, it’s possible.

Thanks for the continuous improvement effort. Very nice, especially the gallery.

I find the old forums list page much more usable. On the new the font seems too small. The font size is close to equal for all elements. I would also add line spacing between the sub-forum lists for those of us who tap on tablets. Overall, the content is pretty overwhelming on that page. And I think the short (one line) forum descriptions are much more effective and all that's needed.

Uploading images to the RFF gallery is a deterrent against sharing images.

I also agree. Make sharing photos a drag-and-drop operation.

Since suggestions for the Classified’s section were requested: Fredmiranda.com handles classifieds better than anyone. How photos are loaded, how text is loaded, how ads can be bookmarked, and, especially, how feedback is handled in a way that is both easy, obvious, and minimizes the opportunities for people who are not involved in transactions to post useless feedback. Also makes it very easy to almost instantly see in detail exactly what kind of feedback a buyer or seller has received, as this information is linked right at the top of every ad.
Just copy the way it’s done over there.

There are some minor things I like and some I don't like. I can adjust. But there are two, one of each that matter the most to me:

Works Well on a Phone:

I'd read more articles if I can read them when idle in a subway or elsewhere. I like that the new system has a "hamburger stack" menu for navigating. I don't like using that app. the old system pushed us to use on a mobile device. I prefer using with the web browser.

Font is Small:

On my desktop computer it's easy for me to increase the font, but not so much on my phone -- it's way too small to read posts on my phone. If I zoom in, the text is cut off, making it not so usable on a phone. Please either increase the base font size, or give us an option to set it in our user control panel.

Otherwise, the new system is great. Thanks so much for making these improvements.

I hadn't looked on my iPhone 11 Pro, so I opened a random page in a thread to view. I use the Safari browser on the phone, same as I do on my desktop system, with text sizing set to the defaults. Here's what I see ... I've sized the screen captures to be about 640 pixels on the long edge, which is about matches the iPhone 11 Pro display size on my desktop computer's 27" monitor, if not its resolution and clarity.

The text displayed in portrait mode is a bit small, depending on your eyes and how far from your face you hold the phone, but the iPhone's display clarity is FAR better than this screen capture on my desktop system's display and I don't find it uncomfortable to read, at least for a short article. Turning the phone on its side and letting it reorient the screen, the text size is more than twice as big and is very easy to read. That's normally how I hold the phone when I'm perusing a larger chunk of text.

This is a tricky thing to set up right and there are very few web pages that get it 100% right, to everyone's satisfaction. But at least it seems at least close in this preview! 🙂

One new feature I LOVE is that images in threads are now automatically resized to fit the browser window. This is how it always should have been! No more random posts with huge images where the text stretches across the width of the entire image. That has been so annoying on the current site...

Please enable secure login! Firefox warns that the login function is not encrypted, and therefore can result in our accounts being hacked by someone intercepting the login data.


Please retain the use of BBCODE to embed images. I post image from flickr and this makes it super easy.


An option to post images directly into threads and have them display at a proper size would be great.


An option for Liking and Thanking posts would also be great.


And can we figure out the strange double spacing/return issues? Right now, if I post without editing, RFF will insert an extra one or two carriage returns when I only hit the Enter key once. Every time I post, I have to edit the post to remove the extra carriage return lines between paragraphs.

There are many things that can be turned on and off. These will get ironed out in due time. Baby steps especially learning the new software.

Mainly looking for functionality and usability feedback.

My personal opinion on the forums is that there are too many. I would consolidate many sub forums and make navigation simple. However that's up to the big cheese 🧀 himself.

One major "must": make it easier to post photos. I think I've posted 2 - and even then only by fluke, rather than understanding how to. (I know, I know: my fault!)

One major "must not": do not take away the ability to read latest posts across forums.
