New RFF Under Construction - take a look

Sorry, but to me — this design still looks outdated for 2021. This is what a modern forum looks like https://forum.glyphsapp.com, although here are no categories, just tags. Still, this new RFI could look better

Agreed, that forum format looks much cleaner & easier to navigate.

& what other have mentioned..... simpler photo posting not using 3rd party hosting !! RFF is the only reason i still have a Flickr account.

Yeah, same here - the interface does look a little dated for the 2020's but otherwise I'm happy. Easier / simpler photo posting is always welcome.

There seem to be three brand-specific galleries. What happened to the regular gallery that all could contribute to?

Also, will the existing images from the present gallery be ported over to the new site?

Everything seems to be labeled "Leica" this or that. I just sold all my Leica gear, but I still like RFF. The new site seems strange and unfamiliar. Forum subjects reduced to just a few.

Almost ready for the migration. Been working on a classifieds section which will require a separate login for the time being. It will eventually be fully part of the forum as well.

I have taken the sugestions on the classiffieds and implemented most of them. Have a look at https://www.leicaimages.com/ads

Thanks for all the hard work you have done over the years.

I guess I'm just an old foggie but I have never had a problem with RFF over the years. And I like the black background. I think it probably took me all of one visit all those years ago to like it, not just accept it.

Those are just my site where the code I work on is in use already. Just filing up menu bars for testing here. It will NOT be brand specific on RFF. Also, yes, photos will come over.

Give me time. I have a full time job that is demanding and I have to find a way to balance my time :)

Thanks for all the work, Jorge.

Maybe it’s too late to make wishes, but I too hope there’s a way to upload images to threads without involving Flickr or RFF gallery (though I cherish the gallery). Leica User Forum is easy in this regard.

I would also like to be able to block users especially in the gallery! There are some wretched photographers who also happen to post a lot of images. How nice it would be to neither see their work nor read their comments.

Forbearance is a virtue, yes, but how much better to be able to choose whose gallery posts/comments you look forward to, and not waste eyesight on certain others.

As of 20:32 on 17/9/21 I can't get onto the new site because neither of my browsers (firefox 52.9.0 and Opera 36.0) can connect. Is this because the site doesn't support those browsers?

Firefox 52.9.0 was released in June 2018. I don't expect any web site to support a 3+ year old version of Firefox.

In December 2020 Opera's usage share was 2.5%. Opera 3.60 was released in May 1999.

He wrote Opera 36.0 (Mar 2016 release date).
Nevertheless, you are correct. Everyone's browser should be updated as soon as a new bug patch or security fix is released. There is no excuse for using an out of date browser in 2021.
You are also correct that there is also no reason for small shop developers to support niche browsers with less than 5pc market share.

Congratulations on getting the new RFF up and running, Stephen! One thing I think could be improved is the "Latest Topics" box. It only lists the new topics, not replies to topics, unless I'm missing something listing them somewhere else without having to search every listed topic. Just noticed the "New Topics" button under "Forums", but it only goes back three pages.

Can't say I'm a fan of opening up the Classifieds to the public, plus needing a different log-in as it is a separate site.

Overall though it looks good, and I like the new themes, especially "Dark".

Try the “Latest Activity” button, then select the “Filter” option on the right. From there you can selectively filter your choices.

When you do want to open a thread from here, I’d recommend opening it in a new browser tab, otherwise when you try going “back” in your browser you’ll have to redo your Filter options on the Latest Activity window.

Can't login to Galleries.
Oh dear ...We sure hope you saved your password somewhere safe. What you entered for credentials won't cut it.

And yahoo style of language is kind of lousy for the page with major bug.

Partially visible text not helping, either:
To use the gallery, you have to log on with a different account. If you are an old RFF member, it will be the same username you have in the RFF forums site. Simply click on Forgot

Aye, and thars the rub! Everything resets when you're on this forum. It doesn't remember what color scheme you have selected, and logs you out when you reset it. I don't want to have to go through three or four layers to get to a post that used to be right on top. It doesn't help when that warning note shows up on the Home page that it is a non-functioning url (or something like that). That definitely needs to be addressed because at first I thought "Well, they bodged the Upgrade right off". And when I go to log in it will display every username I have on this computer EXCEPT the one for RFF. What??? Why should this forum know my other usernames? Oh, and now it no longer displays anyone's avatar.

Oh well, they say smooth seas will never make a skilled sailor.

PF

Note: I found the setting for display preferences under "Account", so now I don't have to reset the color scheme.

When I visit rangefinderforum, I want to see the latest discussion. I think the old style of the landing page it was better at that. My way to get back as close to the previous version is to use the following link. It only works while logged in at the moment.

https://rangefinderforum.com/search..."},"exclude_type":["vBForum_PrivateMessage"]}

Is there a way to have this more easily?

I also have disabled the signatures and avatars and that has improved readability by a lot.
