I've opted in!
It looks like it's something that I'd really use. I'm not looking for lab-scan results, just social media stuff that I won't be embarrassed by due to low quality.

Do you a timeline in mind for the general public release? Guessing you will be targeting iOS 11 release date.

3 hours to go and you have 2000+ backers already and nearly reached double of what you needed in terms of funding, Abe. Well done, really looking forward to the beta.

My goal is to have it ready for release in early fall. But software development is hard to estimate, so we'll see how it goes!

Thanks so much for supporting the project! But unfortunately, I don't think it will be possible to run the app on your iPhone 4s. FilmLab requires at least iOS 10, and Apple stopped supporting the 4s in iOS 9. Any chance you'll have access to another device?

FWIW, iPhone 7 Plus using the 2x lens will focus on an area only a bit longer than 1.5"
So, right from the camera, we'll be able to capture a pretty good file for 35mm film scans, as long as we can keep the film flat.

Hey guys! Abe here. I'm the developer of FilmLab, and a longtime RFF reader and occasional participant. With FilmLab, I'm hoping to make a tool that can be useful to a lot of film shooters, even if it doesn't replace their dedicated film scanner.
To give a quick overview of what I'm trying to do: Under the hood of FilmLab is a software engine that can automatically detect and perspective-correct film frames, and convert negatives to positives. In the first version of the app, this engine is used three ways: to give a live preview of negatives as positives, to capture and convert film images with your smartphone camera, and to process files you've created with a separate camera and lens. It's far from complete, but the results so far are promising. I'm launching a Kickstarter campaign this week this week which will hopefully let me spend more time working on the project.
I'm happy to answer any questions!
Any idea when we might see it ready to go?

Beta of phone "scanning" app Film Lab is out. Give it a try.
I suggest we wait a bit before posting examples or commentary, till we hear from @Abram
I'll just say that in one quick trial, it looks encouraging.

I've been away for a while and still anticipating the FilmLab app. I understand from the above post that a beta version is out. Where can I get it?

It will depend on what phone you have--Iphone or android phone.
If you've got Iphone, you will need to install the "Test Flight" app first, then the "Film Lab" app.
Follow the on screen prompts and you should be set.
I don't know what the process is for android but I would guess the app is in the google store?

Not sure you can still get in on the Kickstarter deal with gives you Beta access. Google "filmlab" for info or look at http://filmlabapp.com for info. I tried to see if the offer is still open, but could not tell.
Looking for Beta3 soon.

FWIW, I think this thing has potential.

The Beta version 0.2 is now out. This beta pretty reliably captures the frame and inverts negatives. I think this has potential.
