[New test photos released] Leica Summicron 35/2 Eight Element copy made in China

Yes, but this is a replica and not the original.

Raid, I'm betting the original could be sold for at least $25,000. USD...given its provenance.

I have no idea how the size of the 'limited edition' I just ran across the ad today and thought it would be of interest to the group who signed on for the 8 element replica. Bellamy Hunt often advertises more select or unique items of photographic interest.

The original was sold (by Netopil) for EUR 40.000, some time ago. Now, it will be the double, I think.

I understand. Somehow, a replica does not seem like a collectible to me. Maybe it is after all.

The original has a history. So it will sell for around $100,000.
Suddenly, the $2500 for the replica set appear little.

That's how marketing works Raid. It's an affordable imitation. Our group was interested enough to buy a replica at approx 10% of what a nice used chrome one costs.
Leica did it too. As an example the Lenny Kravitz or Jim Marshall limited edition, depending on who your photographic hero is....

It is a black painted lens with alternative focusing knob, that's all. If your lens has your unique engraving, congratulation, you have a one copy only limited edition. You can put your lens on the market ask for whatever you want.

Do you mean that such an asking price is OK, or is it for people who view a replica like the original?

I mean there are financially gullible buyers everywhere who get swayed by marketing pizazz and pay a price for that weakness. If you're informed, then you wouldn't fall for the marketing connection introduced simply by referencing HCB.

You would think so but consider where the item is coming from.

Probably, real slick marketing. I hadn't looked at the ad closely at all, but now that i do, it just has the initials 'H.C.B edition and it is only Bellamy's ad that uses H Cartier-Bresson's name. And Limited Edition 135/200....
It makes you wonder who bought the edition, or if LLL themselves started the marketing. Oh well, there's no longer a concern about glass type 😉

....& if Bellamy has #135..... who bought & sold the prior 134?

i am sure the titanium or brass version will surface soon. saw some pictures of them. some people are gonna market them and sell for a premium

Came across a V3LC LLL 35 f/2 via a Facebook group today. First I've heard of/seen a V3LC. Wonder what's different besides the obvious cosmetic and packaging changes. This one appears to be a pre-bronzed black paint variant. Now looks to come in a box with a much smaller round leather padded case, and SN designation went back to the ###/998 format.

It looks as if the black paint parts are abrased; if you want this effect on your lens by normal use, it can take years. It reminds me of pre-washed jeans.

Why the lens is called V3, I don't know.

Erik.

I wonder how many out there are still waiting for their pre-ordered V1LC while LLL is peddling the V3 and 'HCB' variant already.

One real advantage here was Kevin's QC check before shipping it out. I somehow doubt V2, V3 and V4 will get a once-over before departing the PRC for showtime on Twitter, Japan Camera Hunter and FLeABay.

Yes, this seems to be a thing right now - newly repainted cameras that are “Pre-brassed”. Lenses too now.

I am happily still awaiting Version 1. Happy to take the time to wait given the crazy year that was last year. Kevin has done a great job and been in touch so I appreciate his efforts.
